We've always loved pink but never really used it too much in our home, thinking it too girly, too hard to match, or just too sweet. Quite a few modern and contemporary designers have proved us wrong, making pink cool and even a little edgy.

  • Pair it with white, wood, and/or metal. To tone down pink's frilly associations, pair it with classic modern elements like white walls, glass windows, steel frames, and minimal wood furnishings.
  • Use a deep, saturated shade. While pearl pink might tend to feel a little granny-ish, deep hues like fuscia and magenta are anything but.
  • Choose pink for a sexy, sculptural piece. Although a Victorian pink sofa's not exactly sleek, a pink Vernor Panton Amoeba Chair or a Ligne Roset sofa looks totally hot.
  • Mix pink patterns. When you mix and match a few different fabrics, pink starts to feel less precious.
