Making Space: Hallway Storage

Hallways make up a portion of that extra circulation space that often adds nothing to a small home. Instead of just passing through them, though, why not use them for a second purpose, too? A few ideas after the jump:

  • Bookshelves: As seen in the photo up top, a slim bookcase helps this hallway double as a library for books and media storage. Some shelves to try: the Billy Bookcase or the Benno CD Tower. See more hallway book storage here.

  • Artwork: Turn the hallway into a gallery as seen here and here, for instance. You can do this on a stair, too.

  • Seating: If you've room for a chair (like this one) or bench, the hallway can actually be a perfect place to hang for a while. Especially if the space is doubling tripling as a library or gallery.
