Ever since we reported about the dangers of sitting down for long periods of time, especially in front of your computer during your work day, we've been looking at different ways of creating our own standing desks. While some of the desks that we've found aren't as polished as others, there are easy ways of spending your day standing up, working without ever sitting down.
Standing desks are an easy way of staying healthy while working for long hours in front of your computer. While standing desks aren't suitable for everyone, they can help with the lethality of sitting down for more than 8 hours in a row.
1. Hacked IKEA Expedit Standing Desk With Built-In Look: This is by far one of the most sleek-looking DIY standing desks that we've come across. While it isn't cheap (IKEA parts cost about $230) it does make up for this with its incredible looks and bountiful storage.
2. A Standing Desk With Room for Storage Underneath: Unlike the previous desk, this one is a lot cheaper. You can probably easily cobble the parts together without spending too much money. We love the available storage and the overall modern look of this standing desk.
3. Jeff's Handcrafted Standing Desk: Although not everyone can put together such a beautiful desk, if you can do so, check out what Jeff came up with for his own standing desk solution. It was handcrafted and the luxurious stain sets this desk apart.

Shaw's Original Fir...
Love #4 and #3. #5 made me laugh. I can't even understand how people can ever read anything while on exercise machines but I guess you could watch a movie or tv show on itunes? But the screen looks like code to me...
I would gather most of these are merely counter height desks though, not actually used standing.
When I had a back injury and couldn't sit, my workers comp claim was denied as I could theoretically stand up and work on my computer. I'm not sure how they thought I would actually get to work without sitting down or the fact that there was no "stand up" work area accomodation made available to me. Thankfully, my employer recognized the ridiculousness of the situation and granted me extra sick leave instead.
I just bought a Geek Desk, and love it. I find I'm more creative when working while standing up.
These are all very creative ideas. However, I am interested in starting a "standing desk movement" in my office. I don't think the company is willing to invest a lot of money, so I was hoping to find some sort of inexpensive stand to put on top of our desks in order to convert them into standing desks. Does anybody have any suggestions? I have shopped around online but haven't located anything ideal.
We wanted to test our Standing Desk solution, so we parked a truck on it.. For an all bamboo desk, it's amazing to see the results.. http://standeeco.com/blogs/news/7752471-standee-the-worlds-strongest-standing-desk
