Location: Penrose Neighborhood - Arlington, Virginia
As a young bachelor fresh out of college, I was a little nervous when I first decided to move into my 70-year-old Arlington apartment. It was my first time living in such an old complex, which brought on quite a few challenges. Once I moved in, however, I became pretty much instantly obsessed with it.
Is it clearly old? Yes. Is it a little rough around the edges? Yeah. Is there anything wrong with that? Nope. I think that’s what makes it so interesting. It’s just what I needed. I've learned to love the worn hardwood floors, the unique molding around the doors, and several other quirks that are unique to my unit.
As a graphic designer I have a huge love for environmental design. So, in a way, designing the apartment is my roundabout way of branding a space. The biggest challenge about styling the apartment is trying to modernize the space while simultaneously complementing the vintage of it. I would probably call my style "collected modern."
