The documentation of my pregnancy consists of one or two poorly focused belly shots standing in front of a mirror and emails to friends in my Sent box complaining of swollen legs and acid reflux. That's one way to go about it. Or you can go about it the awesome way like Johanna who is creating an amazing keepsake book for herself and her daughter chronicling her thoughts, feelings, and observations along the way as she waits to meet little Mia.
We promise this post isn't meant to make you feel inadequate for not being a fabulous photographer, creative graphic designer or for having the imagination to create something like this. It's to inspire you. What do you do well? Love to write? Keep a journal. Love to talk? Keep an audio or video journal. Love to draw? Create your own pregnancy cartoon starring...you! Involve your partner - what are they good at?
We can't wait to follow Johanna along in her journey and see how she's documenting it. You can see more pages she's created here and keep checking back for updates on Mama Mia's Maternity Book.
(You probably noticed Johanna's gorgeous photography - she's Austin based and specializes in newborns, children, maternity & family photography. See more at Hanna Mac Photography.)
Thanks Johanna!

Personally, I don't think kids care too much about their Mom's thoughts and photos of a growing belly while pregnant They're more enamored with their first year baby books. It's a cute idea but I would rather see it as a baby book.
I respectfully disagree with Kerri.
I would have loved this type of book as a kid. I asked my mom all kinds of questions about when she was pregnant with me. I thought that it was cool that she craved pickles and I that I loved pickles too.
Now that I am ready to have kids, it would be extra special to know what was happening with my mom as i go through the stages of pregnancy.
I agree that it would be cute as a baby book as well.
very cute book and will be a great memory for her and her baby...you really do forget a lot of what you go through
But I do have to laugh at her "Chocolate chip cookie craving." She has an ENTIRE chocolate chip cookie ONCE a week? Lol...that's not a craving, that's a diet.
Ha JNS! I had the same reaction to that page.
But then you know how cra-zy those pregnant ladies are. Gorging on one cookie a week!
Haha JNS! That IS really funny!! Trust me, the eating habits have changed. Its more like one cookie per day now that I am in the safe zone. So much for trying to eat healthy.
Bring on the ice cream!
Thank you for the nice comments :)
This is such a nice take on documenting a pregnancy. There are only two pictures of my mom with me in her belly. I wish there were more.
I think these pages are just beautiful - love them!!!
Very Cute!
My husband and I recently painted the veins on my growing belly and turned it into a tree. I'm sure this little girl will be very embarrassed by these pictures one day.

JNS, same!
my daughter is four weeks and the craving didn't go away :)
mamamia, this is a really sweet project.
I made a pregnancy "story" book too. You can see mine here: http://app.picaboo.com/WebView/Project.aspx?clientID=940c0e438c8fbf432e77c57bcac210cb&version=42548 I just ordered it so I don't have the actual book yet, but I'm so excited to get it in the mail and have it for my little girl.
One cookie per week? Seriously.
Beautiful design. We have a belly cast and a couple of photos, which I'm thinking is good.
this is lovely. It seems nice to have at least some documentation of the pregnancy. Mine is a lot more low-key, low-tech, but I think this is a wonderful book that a child would enjoy as she becomes curious about herself and her parents. And yeah... one cookie a week is where i was at before pregnancy... now it's like three desserts a day. sigh.
Truly the most beautiful book : )
I kept a paper journal during my first pregnancy, and now for my second pregnancy (and actually I have continued them since then). I don't suppose that my children will be interested in them for a long time to come, but in the meantime, they're a great keepsake for me and a way to keep track of all the little details that I would have forgotten already.
When I was pregnant I devoured a foot long sub in under 5 minutes. One cookie a week is not bad when your pregnant. Lovely books!
This is fabulous. Not only is the design and photography really well done, but the fact that you're putting so much love and care into is what makes it extra special.
Even if you're beautiful baby girl doesn't care about it as a child, it will be priceless when she grows up and goes through pregnancy. She'll be able to compare your experience with hers and you'll be so happy you did this...for the both of you.
I would really encourage you (or anyone else doing this) to be much more honest about your feelings. Cravings and nursery updates are fun, but it's the things you're feeling and thinking that might get lost over time. And it's those things that will bring you closer to her as she experiences this herself. Just a thought. :)
Beautiful book! I wish I did this with this pregnancy (I scrapbooked the US photos, tho!). I'll definitely try to do it with my next one.
Jessica I agree with you about being more open in my upcoming pages. Your comment inspired me to share our background in trying to conceive.
I think by sharing this it will relieve the women wondering about my insane cookie consumption.
Please refer to this link to understand why I was so healthy in my first trimester. I'm sure many can relate.

Thanks again for the wonderful comments. They are all very thoughtful.
Gorgeous book, photos and ideas...thanks for sharing!
Not trying to be mean... but... is it a boy or a girl? hehe I'm confused.
And I'm so glad I lurk on Ohdeedoh even thought we won't have our first for at least another year. Gives me all kinds of ideas for things do to to make the most of my 9 months!
This is truly lovely. It reminds me of this series: http://pacingthepanicroom.blogspot.com/search/label/the%20belly%20pictures%20series
When I have a baby, I would love to do something like this.
Anything is better than tons of bare belly photos & sonogram pics on Facebook. :/ Send a private email to your loved ones & keep your church friends from being subjected to it. LOL
Mamamia, your blog entry was incredibly touching. Your daughter is already so blessed!
These types of experiences give you a unique perspective on motherhood and this book is so much more than pages and pictures. I'm so happy for you and wish you good luck as you finish the book and this pregnancy!
Such a gorgeous idea, and so beautifully executed Johanna! I can't wait to make things like this. Good luck with everything!
As one who is adopted, who had zero stories, I'd have loved this...
made me cry.... very special. lots of love involved. congratulations, mama, papa and GIRL <3
