Color Inspiration: I've always been inspired by the saturated colors of Paul Gauguin and his Tahitian paintings. We wanted the alcove to be a surprise as you come around the corner, and Ian had used a similar color successfully in a previous apartment. The peacock blue was chosen for its vibrancy against the mango walls, and for its beautiful depth of color.
Give Mandi a THUMBS UP if you think this room belongs in the finals!

You've done an amazing job and this is exactly what I would expect to see in a Room for Color contest. I LOVE the peacock blue coffee table. The bright colors are done really well - it feels like you're stepping into a boutique hotel in the pictures! Well done.
When people speak of a COLOR contest, I want to see combinations like the ones in your home. The color juxtapositions are vibrant and play off beautifully against everything else in the house. Well done!
I L-O-V-E IT.
I love that this is not a splash of color, but a saturation. This is fantastic.
I like it
LOVE the sofa !!! LOVE the color ......
your work is great Mandi! love the colors and the sofa...they go so well together...and the changes you made since i last saw it! it really has come together b-e-a-utifully!
love,
sara and xenia
this apartment rocks
i'ts already been brought. this is fantastic! the ebb and flow from light to dark is a wonderful rhythm.
the longer i look at this the more i like it!
Lovely, lovely palette. Paul G. would be proud! I'm not on the same page w/you *art-wise* but otherwise love this place. Great details in a rental!
Love the wall colors, I was considering a mango color like that for my kitchen, it looks great here. Also love the accents, to many people try to do very 'matchy' all red, or all purple, or all black and white accents. You've got a nice balance of vivid and neutrals (I'm counting the zebra stripes as a neutral here).
Awesome. This is color!
Love it. Want those mango walls--can you tell us the paint?
Even after a regrettable experience with yellow paint (think McD's arch yellow) in the kitchen, the mango walls have me contemplating getting back on the 'yellow' horse once again. Thanks! I will avoid any paint colors that have lemon in the name this time. Great for desserts, not for the walls!
Love it! :)
Wow! This is wonderful!
Totally fun. I feel like I want to come an hang out there.
it's a beautiful apartment!
congratulations.
katie
I like your bold color choices. Some of the patterns are a bit busy for me, and I don't think anyone should feature a "Butthole Surfers" album cover as art.
this is gorgeous mandi!!!! is that the stained-glass you won in the auction? i love these colors!
I think the decor could use some editing (the little objects we don't notice on a day-to-day basis can read as 'busy' in pictures), but I really, really like the color palette.
very well done. The colors go really well together
you can tell that the daring color choices and the bold and beautiful combinations used really reflect the people who live in this apartment. i disagree about the decor being too busy for the pictures- even those colors accent, or meld in nicely with the wall and furniture colors so you know the palette really exemplifies who they are.
Thanks everyone ! The mango walls are Citrus Blast by Benjamin Moore
Tara yes that stained glass came from Mission Remission's charity auction for Ovarian Cancer research, made by hand by Chris Rayment
I completely agree with mei-ling. This home is what I think of when I hear "COLOR contest." Fabulous and inspirational.
This is right up there with the artists' home in Guanajuato. Love it.
i would like to eat sushi there
I am completely in love with the colors in this room. I would never thought these colors would look so good together. It really has a lot of personality and I think its fabulous! Nice job!!!
i would like to eat that apartment
Where is the bed spread from? Did you use anything polyurethane (sorry for the spelling) or something similar to seal the paint on the coffee table?
Awesome. I'm jealous.
Your apartment makes most of the world look dull by comparison. I love what you have done! It makes me happy!!!
Your apartment makes me want to redecorate! My home needs some color! I have black and white toile wallpaper in the kitchen, and want to paint a warm color. I have a brown woodstove in the kitchen area. What colors would work? I have light wood trim on the windows and doors.
You should be a decorator!!! Love your place!
Cuz, nice place? did you have anything to do with this masterpiece or was it all Mandi?
What a gorgeous place! Love that French Vanilla fretless Fender bass as an accent piece....
I love jewel tones so I am sad that this is not working for me at all. Its not balanced for me.
better home, no garden: the bedspread is from target 2 or 3 years ago. i used minwax polyurethane clear gloss on the table top, but left the legs with just the paint
bootsie (mom): i'm available for consultations, you can pay me in lasagna :)
laura: mango color was inspired by ian's room in california! and he agreed with the blue instantly when i suggested it so he can have a little credit
I am so glad to view another's photo's who knows the definition of COLOR...per the contest title...your apartment is wonderfully colorful, vibrant and especially complimented with the colorfully unique artwork as well. You really have incorporated all aspects of colour into your place...you didn't leave your window plain..you decorated it, you made use of all the wall space without it looking cluttered...the items on the mantle add more zing and it's nicely done...super job...if you don't mind, I'd offer up a few suggestions...I think the clock is out of place (maybe if it were painted a bright coordinating colour??) and if the curtains were mango...anyway, thanks for the views of your wonderful original space!!
Love your use of white to make the bold colors really pop. Bring your paint to Florida and make my home look as happy as yours.
Mandi,
I love it!!!!! Such bold colors and yet they all work.
I almost want to come look at the actual room.
I really feel inspired when I look at your apartment! Gauguin is a perfect point of color reference - cheers to cheery colors!
Mandi,
HOW beautiful! I LOVE it! I can see you doing an artistic point of view in all that inspires you. Gauguin is one of my fav's too, very intense and passionate.
GREAT job! I'll have to come visit you and see in person,
Hugs, Brenda... Sean's Mom!
this place looks insanely good and tasty...like i could eat that joint with whip cream...or something saucy on top....good stuff
No need to look further- these colors are wonderful together and I love your artistic flair.
It's adorable and go Jersey City! :-)
your wall & glossy coffee table match the AT header! i instantly love the feel of your home. great work :) xo
can't believe you used such bold colors on many walls and surfaces...and they look FABULOOOOUS...very inspiring for me for MY apt.
Love the colorful painting over the bed. Was it painted by an artist with a local NY studio?
Your coffee table makes me all weak in the knees. Great job.
that painting is by the artist Linda Danesi, her use of color is phenomenal and inspiring
she works in NJ, you can contact her at mdanesi@earthlink.net if you want a painting.
she's also my mom <3 <3
this environment is a painting that has come to life. beautiful. now i am inspired to paint a new piece.
I have almost the exact same layout (glass doors and all!) in my JC apartment, yet you've transformed your space into something completely, utterly different- it's really quite amazing. Thank you for the very pleasant eye-opener!
YES!!! That's how it goes in a Color Contest! Thumbs up in the first round up! ;)
I mean, 1st ROUND! :P
This place is gorgeous! I'm having deep jealousy issues. Go, Mandi!
I love it! All those colors dance together beautifully! If you do this with food & spices, I'm coming to dinner! ;-)
Wish I had seen this in time to vote! That stained glass piece over the doorway is beautiful - amazingly clever placement! Wow ... there's just too much to say! You and your mother are wonderful artists! I'm off to check out your profile ... & to bake your lasagna!
This matchup against Gidget is the toughest vote so far. You got my vote in the end, Mandi, because the colors in your room are so bold, daring and energetic. You used them together artistically, and, taken as a whole, your color pallet is very sophisticated. I hope you make it to Round 4.
I just love your apartment Mandi! I hope you win so bad! :)
The matchup with Gidget convinced me your room was on the mark for color therapy. Seeing your room next to hers made a difference. Her room is too dark and somber. Not much to make you feel good there! Hope you win the contest, you deserve it!
work it, lady!
I never would have imagined to put those colors together, but the way you did it is amazing! They work!! They make me want to come right in and sit down. Nice work!!!
Your choice of colors is astounding - vibrant yet welcoming. This is the happiest apartment I've ever seen!
Mandi.....YOU ROCKKKKKKKK !!!!!!!
Hotness!
I am still with you on this one. While Katie's room is nice, it's not that colorful. Your room changes my mood instantly. Good luck!
Go Jersey City!!!
beautiful job Mandi. Love that place....what a wonderful artistic representation. Go yomagirl.
Energizing! Hope you win.
Did you not win? I cannot believe it!!! Sometimes people don't get it...they vote for personal preference and forget it's a color contest- clearly your apartment was the MOST colorful one! Sigh....
I love this, good choice of colors.
