For some guys, home design has literally gone to the dogs. Furry friends big and small have influenced these homes from designer bowls to matching chew toys. As we continue our Inside Man project, take a look back at some of our most popular pooch-themed posts.
Actually, designing for dogs can be a great place to start. It's going to influence the couch you buy. You'll need to consider the best spot for the dog bed or will you need a crate? Where will Biscuit keep his squeaky toys? Or maybe you have a favorite piece of doggie art to go above the bed. Just remember, you’re the master. So when it comes to letting your pups on the furniture, allow them up with a stern look on your face.

My Old English Sheepdog, Burger, curls up inside an ancient, exhausted womb chair at bedtime. I threw a hide over it when he was a puppy and ever since then he's claimed it as his throne/bed. Now if I could just get him to stop tipping over wine glasses and eating books.
My whippet's arrival greatly changed my living room. She has a large crate with a complementary side table, so it's now crowded.
She appropriated my favorite living room chair. I may get a second chair with that frame so that I have one that comfortable to sit in, again.
I plan to replace her chair's fabric cushions with cushions covered more sturdily. She likes to make a nest before reclining by stomping and digging in her chair. She's small and middle-aged (no teething chewing), so the leather and wood furniture elsewhere is holding up well.
Another reason I'll get furniture that's not upholstered in fabric is that her shed fur clings more to fabric. I'll also look for upholstery in colors similar to her shed fur to try to hide it.
I'm releasing some unnecessary stuff to make room for my dog's stuff. I guess most people must retrodecorate unless they already are very familiar with dogs.
There is a post that is missing here, but for the life of me I cannot remember its title. The main picture was of a bedroom wall covered in wood "blocks" that the owner had put up himself. The doghouse/nightstand was bright orange (?) and had a porch covered with a sheepskin. The dog was small like a French bulldog.
Anyone know it? I tried searching, but AT's search and I don't seem to get along.
Heather C...I don't think I remember the post you described but now I really want to see it too!! I hope someone out there remembers what it was *fingers crossed*
FOUND IT! How could anyone forget?!?

This German company ships internationally.
I'm on a quest for a new sofa and have three dogs so I need some advice. They dogs are not allowed on the sofa all the time, but I do invite them up for tv watching snuggling from time to time. I'd love to go with leather but have heard mixed reviews on dogs/claws and leather furniture. Can I get some feedback from other dog lovers out there? What type of fabric/leather did you get on your couch and how does it hold up to pooch lounging? THANKS!
@bsoapr: Get a big gnarly leather sofa from Restoration Hardware: http://www.restorationhardware.com/rh/catalog/product/product.jsp?productId=prod1608045&navCount=2
I got this because the more scratched up and abused it is, the better it looks. Mine knows he's only allowed up on the sofa when he hears the cork pop from a bottle of wine, Im a total pushover after a couple glasses of wine.
Dog butts go on my sofa and in my bed! But I keep a blanket over my chairs and have a slipcover over the sofa so it doesn't get too ruined, although one of the cushions is missing a corner from the puppy days...
I have an eight month old boxer amongst the other two very small mongrels in my house. He was "abandoned" at birth so I bottle raised him....needless to say I didn't have his tail docked so anything and everything on my coffee table is fair game for tail ball. He's the reason I keep my house tidy. Just as he shoved his way into our hearts, he's also made his way onto our 40 year old love seat.

Sueded and bonded leather are more fragile than full grain/top hide. The rule of thumb is the thicker the leather, the more durable. Black leather hides stuff better than lighter colors.
