Manual Espresso Maker by Presso

We've seen a few manual espresso makers before, but none are as elegant as this one by Presso. The Presso is capable of supplying the pressure to make shot after shot of espresso. Hot water is required (so it's not completely without energy), but no more than making a cup of tea ...

Made from recyclable polished aluminum, the Presso is far more compact than a traditional espresso maker. Easy enough to operate, simply fill the steel filter with coffee, place in the chrome holder, add some boiling water to the heat proof cylinder, and slowly squeeze the lever arms down forcing the water through the coffee at high pressure.

Available at the ECOutlet for £78, it's cheaper than many espresso makers out there and I'm sure will last far longer.

It's lovely, from a design point of view!

But what is the "heat proof cylinder" made of? It seems likely that if it were glass, they'd call it the "glass cylinder," which would imply plastic, which, yuck.

I also think it's somewhat disingenuous of the folks who sell the Presso to say that it's made from recyclable aluminum. Great, if I am done with my espresso maker and want to get rid of it, the metal can be recycled. That's hardly unique and doesn't (by itself) make this product particularly "green."

Shall I state again that the Presso is a lovely object? And I do appreciate that it doesn't require electricity or pre-packaged coffee pucks. Just so that no one accuses me of being wholly cranky :)
