Oh is this why many American kids don't know where other countries are located? I've always had a world map in my room.
There are those who think that the world is not just the USA. Why not teach kids where Fez is? Or Barcelona? St Tropez? Monaco? Timbuktu?
AT, you are better than this.
I am astonished to discover the United States of America is an island. Oh wait...
Definitely a map of the world would be a better idea for any child. America will also be on a world map, although not in island form. And not in the centre of the world, either.
As an American living overseas, I was actually looking for good US maps this week. Our problem is that our kids know where China, India and Madagascar are on a map, but not Texas (not a bad thing, but I probably should teach them!).
I would love to see fun world map options too. Maybe another good post on world maps to complement?
While I can relate to the comments about using a world map, there are a surprising number of people in the US who can't name all the states, let alone find them on a map. (I confess to always thinking Kansas is much further east than it really is, and Colorado much further west than it actually is.)
So while a world map is an excellent idea, having a map of the US isn't a bad idea, either.
It would be nice if these maps included ALL 50 states.
What's with the first three anti-American posts? Because an American child has a map of his or her country that somehow means that there can be no interest in other parts of the world?
Lighten up people. I had a map of America on my wall as a child and I was quite proud of it. I was also interested in geography and I would confidently challenge most people to a geography quiz.
