My grandfather used to say that everyone has a story. When you think about it, every thing has a story, including the wood in our floors. This is what Pernille Snedker Hansen of Snedker Studios works to capture and magnify using old world marbling techniques. Through the organic process of marbling, Hansen accentuates the mysterious stories running through grains of pine wood. And the results are glorious.

The process begins with locally-sourced Scandinavian pine, which Hansen marbles in bright colors to accentuate the unique structure of the wood, as though each plank of wood is being viewed under a microscope. The colored marbling works to highlight the nuanced patterns and shapes, turning a basic piece of blond wood into rivers and clouds of color and texture.

As with the best marriages of art and design, these planks are crafted to be functional, and can be used as flooring, paneling, or as a wall display.

William Blake said, "To see the world in a grain of sand and heaven in a wild flower..."
I would say Hansen's work helps all of us look a little more closely at the stories running through the wood we use in our daily lives. I also think Blake would dig these floors.
