We're fans of Marc Jacobs, so we keep trying to love his home designs. AT: LA blogged the Peter Vases yesterday, which we like, but we have mixed feelings about the collection as a whole.
We love the whole thrift-store-meets-high-design look. You can always spot a Marc Jacobs ad by the Juergen Teller photos. They're controversial, but they work. If he could take this photo of Meg White from the 2006 collection and translate it into a designer room we'd be psyched, but the home collection seems a little staid to us.
We like the designs (especially some of the glass pieces) but they don't differ that drastically from other things we see in home stores. We feel like they're lacking that little bit of edge that the bag and the shoes have going for them in the photo above. To be fair, he is working with Waterford, a classic name in Crystal that isn't exactly cutting edge.

staid. not that they're hideous, but i never would have guessed that these were marc jacobs.
Could be that the "powers on high" dictated what would sell - then they produced it, and slapped Marc's name on it...resulting in a product line that misses the mark. No pun intended :)
The photo of the girl on the bed is kinda freaky.
Not impressed with these as much as I am with his clothing designs...which have already been done by previous designers.
These homewares don't really seem to add anything dynamic to the market of tried and true brands. The china seems a bit stiff, and honestly, Lenox, Waterford or even Kate Spade do these classics better.
I was so suprised by his china when I was shopping a few weeks ago. It didn't seem to fit his aesthetic at all. I've come to expect his clothes to be quirky or unusual or slightly funny or off in an interesting way-- the china at least wasn't any of those things.
After his stint in rehab, Marc Jacobs doesn't even look like his uber-geekish-mysterious-disheveled self. Out with the dirty Stan Smiths, in with the Hedi Slimane suits, and a little too polished than what I'm used to. Maybe his creativity detoxed along with the booze and drugs! But seriously...kudos to his new life of sobriety!
I have that bag! And I LOVE it! But yeah like others are saying, I would have never guessed those glass pieces were his designs. Kind of old and boring. I really love his shoes, bags, coats... everything has a bit of an edge, something special, and is very well made. These pieces above seem a little generic to me. Suprising, and disappointing actually.
Maybe he let his grandma design the line?
