Just wondering, has AT written about Architizer before? While Marc seems like a nice person, and his survey answers seem perfectly fine, I wonder about why he is featured this way it seems unusual for AT do do this.

As we say above in the post, a group of (stylish!) people that the Editors know were asked if they would like to participate in the survey.
Some of them definitely have been featured on Apartment Therapy before, and for others, it may be their introduction to the Apartment Therapy readers.

I am sorry I don't know who Marc Kushner is or anything about Architizer.
An example of this with background material would be Elle Decor's 12 things I can't live without monthly feature.
