Earlier this month Apartment Therapy reader grayskey asked for alternatives to live and artificial trees, and nordicpine suggested IKEA's Margareta fabric. At $6.99 a yard with a 59" pattern repeat, it's a clever tree trompe l'oeil for those short on space, allergic to evergreens, opposed to faux or dreaming of a machine washable Christmas tree. Since that post, we have seen several cute takes on the Margareta tree.

I want a forest!
If only I had walls...
Really like the first one.
I love this idea. It would be a great solution to my problem of where to fit a Christmas tree in my apartment. Not sure I could get my 5 and 2 year old daughters on board though! They are super excited about picking out a Christmas tree so I think they'd be a *little* upset if I came home with a 2 dimensional fabric tree!
I'm going to hang mine over a living room window. I plan to poke wire hooks for light-weight ornaments through it. Still working on a lighting scheme...
That is cool. You could also hand it in facing out of a window to fool passers-by.
It was on sale at my Ikea. My friend and I and some painters tape went all over my house trying to find the best open wall for it. It is big (2 yards tall).
That's awesome
Want.
Intriguing! Might need one of those television-screen roaring fires next to it...
Oh, I like this idea. I might have to try it..
Great idea! Very small apartment and 2 dogs that think a live tree is fair game. Oh Yah!
Yep. This is what I need for our apartment.
This is a very cool fabric. However, up here in Montreal, they were sold out of it by mid-November. Bummer.
PERFECT. We can't do a tree this year because we have a new puppy and my ornament collection is 100% blown glass.... you can imagine the disaster waiting to happen. I'm going to pick up a yard on my way home from work and hang this over our fire place with some cheap mini-balls from Home Depot. Ta-DA! Love it. thanks
Super cute ideas!
Love it! I just worked on mine this weekend. I attached my felt bulbs with Velcro so that the kids could play with the ornaments without damaging them. I couldn't find a long enough dowel, so I used a curtain rod.

Love the concept!. I was thinking about putting it in a corner and then having garland and/or LED lights span the canvas, creating something of a 3-D effect. You could put the light string behind the canvas and cust small openings for the lights.... and I'm off.......
