Name: Margie
Location: Brooklyn, New York
Type of Home: rental apartment
Color Inspiration: Creating warmth in an often times cold feeling city, I take my inspiration from my Scandinavian inheritance. My mother's bird tapestry above the sofa and my bird clock above the dining table became the inspiration for bringing color into the entire apartment.

Colors Used: I mainly use maroon, green and orange in my apartment, but also have hints of yellow and blue here and there. It's a muted rainbow! All the colors have led me to leave the walls an off white. But I've been thinking a lot about painting...
Color Tip: I like to keep it simple, nothing too overwhelming. You can have vibrant colorful patterns if you keep the space minimal (and bright!). And I like the pops of color to be spread out, uncluttered, making sure to not take away from each individual thing. Lastly, I think lighting is the ultimate factor. I'm a big fan of lighting. I never use overhead lights. At night I have a few lamps or candles lit.

love the colors!
For having white walls, your place is delightfully colorful.
Where is the couch from? I'm in love....
Love the chair!
lovely
This is wonderful! I also have that bird fabric over your couch; my mother worked at a wall coverings store in the 60's and saved it as a swatch. What a happy room to be in!
Brilliant!
That chair is Fab! Excellent color scheme!
One of the best rental apartments (that kept all the walls white) that I've ever seen! Love the floral chair in the corner! Also loving the unique pillows!

Very, very nice!
excellent job!
This reminds me of one of those old technocolor movies. The bright, cheery, and playful nature of the room makes me imagine warm summer days with a nice refreshing glass of countrytime lemonade.
It's cool, needs more birds though
Beautiful job Margie!!! Love Farrell
love the fabric on the chair.
Delicious
I second the loving of your couch. I too would like to know where you got it <3
Thanks so much everyone! The couch is (gasp) IKEA! The 2007 version of the kramfors sofa. I don't believe they sell this version and color anymore. But my favorite story is that I bought from a friend in exchange for a few packs of imported German beer.
love love love this room! these colors make me feel happy and comforted. great pallet.
Holy crapoli! Your apartment's the bomb.com!!!!
You are sooo designing my place when I have the money to pay you! Hellz yes!
Woohoo!
i just love how all the artwork, colors and prints work together, soo well <3
Love this!
subtle detail, very harmonious without seeming over-designed. Very soothing, yet cheerful apartment. Lovely.
Great use of color! Not sure how you tied together all of those colors, but you did it beautifully! I can't imagine ever being unhappy in this space.
Charming and soothing!
AAAHHH....feels like home! I love the warm colors and bright sunlight. Also like the added cute little orange pumpkins on the table. I like the way you set up the books on the shelf according to color. It makes it seem less cluttered and adds to the rainbow colors. Nice job Margie!
Margie,
Very creative color scheme. So pleasant. I've always liked that bird fabric and everything else goes so well with it. The scandinavian style is so sleek and cheerful. Hey, Ikea has fun things-nice sofa!
I like the way you've even grouped your books by color! :)
Thoughtfully designed color palette without looking contrived. Great entry!
So I wake up today in dreary weather and after a miserable commute to work I thought I'd punch out some things on my wish list. As I'm researching a few ideas of apartment pick-me-ups I come across this ray of sunshine. Not since the days of flat-tops and dance rap have I seen such explosive color. The expressions and feels that come from Margie’s place make me want to run throw a meadow of flowers and think of Superkafragilisticexpealidoshish things.
If I was a monkey and could throw poo, I would NOT throw it at this place.
