Name: Marian Williams & Sig Froelich
Location: Ukrainian Village — Chicago, Illinois
"It just needs paint and track lighting." That is what my boyfriend and architect Sig Froelich, told me when I first viewed the empty and bleak first floor apartment. I needed the space for my graphic design studio and the price was right, so I took it. Two years later, I walk through the apartment with a smile…
Each room is furnished with pieces from the internet, flea markets, outlets and friends. We painted the walls in shades of gray to accentuate the colorful art and installed track lighting in almost every room. By combining our design sensibilities, we created a home studio that is as easy on the eyes as it was on my purse.
Thanks Marian & Sig!

Shaw's Original Fir...
So awesome. I love the neutral furnishings and the bright artwork. Amazing what paint and track lighting can do. ;) Would love a full house tour.
I know how bleak these typical Chicago apartments can be but - WOW! I'd never have guessed yours was one of them. Fantastic job - I love everything about it (including your pup!). Great white bedroom and I love the big art in your dining and living rooms.
Great mood, peaceful, fun, and clean!
I really like that there is so much contrast in this house without a lot of color (which is generally my thing.) Full tour, please.
Agree with dirce79. It's nice to see that fun elements can be added to a simple apartment without too much colour.
Beautiful! Can you tell me where you got the area rug in your living room?
This is a great space. probably the closest to my space I've been in any house call/tour. The only thing I would do is get actual wall mounted lamps in the bedroom. Otherwise its wonderful.
So well edited. One of the best Chicago apartments I've seen.
Love it - interesting without being cluttered, elegant but still has touches of whimsy. Artfully done. Will be borrowing ideas! I'm with the other people who would like to see more!
These are great. I have that same dining room table with similar chairs, and I'd been dithering over whether to commit to a drum shade fixture and whether to paint the walls navy. Thanks for a spot-on inspiration pic!
I really like this dining room table, where did you find it ?
Everything is well done. Great taste! the lead picture has art work that is blocked from camera view by the pendant lamps. I'm guessing that it is not as obstructive in person. Is it? Do you get better views from different angles?
source for the man/woman art in the dining room?
Very nice!
where is the adidas print from? love this space!
I don't like most of the artwork, but I do like the wooden chair in the living room. Very nice.
swig -- I'm pretty sure that's a CB2 rug. every time I see one in someone's apartment I totally lust after it, but sadly it seems to be discontinued so I'm not sure how to get my hands on one.
I need to know where the man/woman posters in the dining room are from!
@PW - seconded! I love the adidas art, along with all of the other art. Sources, please!
I usually don't like neutral, monochromatic spaces but this is lovely. Not boring at all. Nice paint colors ;-)
Source for the Adidas artwork please!
Smooches
I would swap the adidas art with the piece above sofa. It would work better there i think.
Love, love, love
Where is that dining room table from and also the Adidas painting?
love this one!

Cozy...and please know the baby (the dog) made me love your house even more..
Dining room table source???
I really like the overall color scheme, and I am in love with that photograph of the boat above the bed!
Relaxing and very nice on the eyes, perfect amount of furniture. Love the neutrals and nice to see NO Tv in the living room when it would typically sit.
Dining table is the "Big Sur" table at Crate and Barrel.
gorgeous. i, too, have a bleak first (and a half) floor apartment in ukrainian village, and am now wishing i chose a darker grey.
awesome indeed!
House tour, please! With a floor plan, if possible.
I'm really digging the bedroom, I'd love to see the rest of it; and that gray paint in the dining room/area... LOVE - it's the perfect backdrop for those particular art pieces. I'm with the others who want a full tour.
the addidas print comes from mutual friend - try http://www.starrm.com *no shop up yet, but I'm sure he'll respond to emails
...and the man and woman prints? Sources please!
Incredible. The art in the dining room is fab...would love to know where to find them and the white bookshelf is the office is gorgeous.
Thanks for all the great comments! The boat picture came from the Children's Memorial Resale Shop on Fullerton and Halsted. The dining room art came from a friend who purchased them at a Flea Market. I will ask him to give me more details. The white bookshelf in the office is from Nadeau. http://www.furniturewithasoul.com/
I love the Man and Woman artwork in your dining room. It looks so perfect with you dark gray walls. Home tour, please. : )

Wow! Your apartment really is awesome! I love it. Very skillful use of art. I am amazed at your neutral palette combined with the pop art. Just the right amount of whimsy. Love how uncluttered and peaceful the place is.
Cool! I wonder where these two live. I'm in the ukie village too. I'm never happy with my apartments here. Nice to see how well they improved theirs!
Full house tour please.
That is the best artwork EVER!!!
Marian & Sig,
What a great place and great choice of colors and textures! This must be a space to live and work in!
Sad to say but your dining room art people look like they are wearing the drum shades. . Maybe it is just the angle of the photo. Or maybe they are mostly viewed from sitting down or a different angle. Wow! Really great art!
Also the art over the sofa has lost all of its impact as juxtaposed to the bright, graphic Adidas print. It needs to be on a wall without a large piece of furniture between it and the viewer so it can be appreciated. I hope you find another great piece for above the sofa in the future.
Your home is just phenomenal! ENJOY IT.
All the best to you!
Can you tell us how many square feet it is?
I've been reading AT for years, but have just registered to comment to ask about the wooden chair in the living room shot.
I'm looking for something similar and am dying to know where you found it!
I love the colors in this house and I also vote for a full tour.
WOW you all have done a stunning job with this apartment! i love the paint colors you chose - your artwork looks awesome against it.
Sigh...your place couldn't get any cuter...could it!?!?! I am thinking not...lol...love it!
Nothing special but I do love the dining room.
