The two companies have been partnered up since the 60s, when Crate and Barrel co-founders Gordon and Carole Segal discovered the fabric in a shop in Denmark. The bold fabric has even become a Crate and Barrel decor signature; each stores is decorated with a dramatic swatch of the bright fabric. Now they're taking it to the next level by offering exclusive designs that you won't be able to find anywhere else. The Marimekko shops offer items designed exclusively for Crate and Barrel, from glasses, pillows and umbrellas to a selection of accessories (I love that teapot!) and bedding. Of course they offer many patterns of the iconic fabric. And, if you've ever thought about having your furniture upholstered in it, Crate and Barrel's got you covered. It'll be an upholstery option on some of their furniture.
Crate & Barrel is planning 22 shop-in-shops, with the first five open for business this Spring. They will be in New York (one is already open and a second, on Madison Avenue, will open tomorrow, April 28), Chicago (North and Clybourn, May 5), Los Angeles (The Grove, May 19), and San Francisco (Union Square, May 26).
