Name: Mark and Lisa Lund
Location: South Part of Bainbridge Island, Washington
Size: Main House: 3500 sq ft, Guest House: 850 sq ft
Years lived in: 15 years; owned
Fifteen years ago Mark, Lisa, and their two children made the move from Seattle to Bainbridge Island in search of a comfy, rustic home. They came across a 1970's house built by Architect Roger Katz made to look like an early 1900's structure, which was one of their criteria. What was even more exciting to them was that Katz, an avid sailor, created the house with the idea of sailing in mind…
The house has dramatic triangular vaulted ceiling, skylights, and rafters all throughout. It almost seems like you could rig sails in parts of the house. Mark and Lisa, being sailors themselves, fell in love with this home at first glance and the rest was history.
They have raised two children and their dog Ziggy in this home for the past decade and a half. A few years back they decided that they would do a big remodel. They pushed out their kitchen and bedroom 10 feet, put in an indoor/outdoor fireplace, added a deck outside the living room, a BBQ area, and a beautiful water feature. The remodel was so spectacular it was featured in Dream Kitchens Magazine.
Mark and Lisa wanted to create an environment that was warm, rustic, eclectic and comfortable. Nothing pretentious. A place that makes you feel good and want to stay. Unlike many homes in the Seattle area, theirs is a place where you can kick off your rain boots without actually leaving them at the door. Enjoy the tour!

Shaw's Original Fir...
So much to love about this house!
I am obsessed with the floors...
The chairs all look like a great place to plop down with a good book...
And the dog face, what's not to love
Things that perplexing me...
The back splash in the kitchen, I like it but it looks a bit mid-century for this space.
The leather chair with the framed picture propped up behind, just waiting to fall on someone's head.
All in all I love!
Love all of this!
What peculiar lights in the kitchen! I can't tell if they are string lights or some kind of tract system? They look very nice, please share!
Beautiful! Keep posts featuring the NW area coming!
Amazing.

That kitchen is to die for. I like the spatial narrative of having a very horizontally oriented set of "lines" moving straight into the dining table.
Lovely. Pure and simple. I also want your dog!
Wow. Living here would be my idea of heaven! I think this couple's style blends seamlessly with the architecture of this home. One of my favorite house tours!
Wow ! your home is just beautiful . Talk about a dream home .
Fabulous throughout. Nice personal touches.
Gorgeous, but hardly "rustic" or Apartment-Therapy material...the guest house alone is bigger than a lot of people's primary (only) residences.
I see where this home would be referred to as a "dream" home. I could only dream of living here. Can't imagine the cost of heating it in winter and cooling it on hot summer days.
The kitchen is the size of my apartment! It's huge. Beautiful home just a bit too much home for me. Thanks for sharing and allowing me to dream.
You had me at the first picture. I agree with E.I.F. - this house is a dream.
Not to mention your dog. He reminds me of my old chocolate lab!
I loved everything - the furniture, the outdoor spaces, the bookcases around the doorway, the staircase, the molding... I could go on forever!
I don't like the feeling at all, but since this house is so well styled, I tried to pinpoint what it was that I didn't like. I think it may be the choices of fabrics and the cumulative effect of stones and wood. While I'll never say that the fabrics are ugly (they are obviously not !), but they are old-fashioned and the patterns are heavy and dark. When you combine this with the dark, beautiful wooden floor and the exposed stones here and there, it gives a very serious look that I'm not into. I prefer a more airy and a little more funky look.
However, your kitchen is to die for...
This house is awesome and must be a dream to live in....filled with the things collected and the owners taste which is how it should be. Don't know why people whine that it isn't typical AT...it's good that it isn't....tired of the same look....same furniture...same prints.....same my first apt
This is what a home should look like (imo): lived in cozy and authentic. Well done! I am extremely jealous of all those lovely architectural details and love how they respected and worked with those details
What is the paint color on most of the walls?
I love the wood floors, and the windows. I especially like the desk with the heart shaped holes in the drawers. What is the resource for that?
Incredibly beautiful house, but "rustic" is a stretch. This is a straight-up fancy house, and I want it!
I really like the kitchen and I guess it's an upstairs landing area. The furniture and living room are a bit dark for me personally too but that's just a preference. Great house!
I love all of it. I also think it's funny that pretty much every chair has a throw.
I think I need to submit my studio barn to truly define rustic :), septic tank and all.
I am green with envy what a great home in a beautiful location and outdoor setting really lovely place to raise children and for your doggie too.
The kitchen is fantastic!
I notice the throws too only because they are draped the same way.. but I am sure its drafty there and nice to have one ready to cuddle with.
Beautiful floors and ceilings! I really like all the fabrics here, how they go together despite being pretty different.
Have to agree with norahl about the kitchen backsplash, though. I like it on its own, but it seems like it doesn't go with the rest of the house.
Just love this house. And OMG the kitchen! I.die.
the doggie made me smile.
I could just live in the guest house. I'll be quiet.
Both houses are gorgeous!
Gorgeous! Jealous!
Ziggy's smile made my day, what a sweet pup! I love Bainbridge, very pretty and now very expensive. Lovely home. But I have to say that mirror over the leather couch also made me think it would come crashing down. It's ok not to stage your home. This house is obviously lovely enough without staging.
Do four people really need 3500 square feet to live in comfort???? I agree with Sally305.
Love. So cozy even though the size.
wow! i love your style! i like the use of the color burgandy with white and wood accessories.i love that little white box seat. your house is a dream! thanks for sharing!
I really like the wire chairs and pedestal table in the dining room. Where are they from?
Also, re: criticism about whether this home is too big or luxe for AT, I understand that not every home or room clicks for every person, but I don't think this house is any grander than many others I've seen.
Although small homes are often greener we don't know enough about this family to make assumptions about how they're utilizing the space.
And I agree that it's a nice change from some of the recurring looks I've seen on AT.
Thanks!
I love the exterior more than the interior. What a beautiful home!
Ziggy!!!! Love the happy labby.
Could you tell me the exterior color of your home, including main surface and trim? I LOVE your house. We have an urban farmhouse in Minneapolis and I want to copy your exterior colors (would send you a pic if interested). Thanks!
the floors! the beams! the nooks! The light!!!!!
