Thankfully, prefab continues to make strides in home building, slowly but surely. LA based Marmol Radziner & Associates has put into production their green, modern prefab homes and are offering tours of their factory in Vernon, California.
The Utah House 1 design is currently in production. Utah House One includes: 2bed 2bath 2500sf internal footage and 1720 sf deck footage.
Marmol Radziner Prefab's 65,000 square foot factory accommodates the fabrication of 20 prefab modules at once, including a cabinet shop, metal shop, and door and window shop.
according to their website:
For each module, we weld together steel floor frames, then we add the steel columns. We weld the roof frame separately and lift it on top of the columns. Once the steel frame is set, we complete the interior wall framing, plumbing, and electrical and mechanical components. We then install the finishes, cabinetry, appliances, and fixtures. Finally, we shrink-wrap the module for delivery.
If you were considering a prefab home this would be the place to do all your research and question asking. Now... if we could just have some lovely person bequeath a plot of land to us here in pricy So Cal the other 'minor' issue with us having a prefab would be solved.
The next factory tour is slated for:
Sunday, December 3, 2006, noon to 5pm
