Bedtime is already starting to slip a bit later with our summer schedule. We like to do one quiet activity in the late afternoon, something simple yet fun. We spotted this idea for using marshmallows as building blocks and knew we had to give it a try right away.
You just need to get a bag of large marshmallows and some bendable straws. Cut the straws in half, then start building using the marshmallows as connectors for the straws. It's simple and utilizes things you've got in the pantry already. Clean up is simple, too - make s'mores out of the marshmallows and save the cut straws for the next time the kids want to do this activity again.
By the way, Skip To My Lou is having an awesome craft camp right now for kids and featuring great crafty ideas like this one. Go check it out.

hmmm, I don't think those marshmallows would last long in my house... and I have a feeling that the activity wouldn't be very quiet after my son had eaten a few of those :D

I've seen a similar thing done with bluetac and toothpicks

This is now going to happen at my son's BUILDING SITE birthday party! Thanks for the idea!
Great idea for a birthday party.... just before bed, not so much.
I did this activity with the kids I used to work with all ranging in age from 6-16 yrs old but we used spaghetti noodles (uncooked, of course) instead of straws to see how tall of towers they could build without having them collapse. The kids and grownups all had SO much fun with this activity.
