Monday, Martin Luther King Jr. Day, is a federal holiday -- so a lot of us will be given the day off from work. But, as President-elect Obama has reminded us, it's also a day of service ... an opportunity to go out and do some good in our communities.
There are plenty of wonderful opportunities listed at USA Service.org. Simply type in your zip code and see where you can volunteer your time on Monday. There are so many worthwhile events in our neighborhood, it'll be hard for us to choose which to attend.
Please let us know in the comments what you plan to do on Monday.

My husband and I will be joining our Atlanta neighbors on Monday to raise awareness and call on our city council to address the crime wave that's happening here in MLK's hometown.
Here's hoping this town can somehow live up to King's legacy of peace.
Since I live in DC and this place is a madhouse of tourists right now, I will be holed up in my apartment and getting prepped for hours of standing in the cold on Tuesday in the Mall. However, I will probably work on some website matters for the chapter of the House Rabbit Society where I volunteer. We had an event today, so there are updates to be made.
