We are still surprised, even as a resident, by some of the amazing older buildings tucked away in our city. Melbourne's signature style is mixing the old with the new: innovative modern architecture sits right next to elaborate residences from the 'Marvellous Melbourne' era. Dean-Melbourne has a great collection of images cataloguing both here. We wanted to share some of the city's older secrets with readers who haven't been here. More below.

The Labassa house in Caulfied, built in 1890

Mannerist styled terrace houses on Royal Parade, Parkville, built in 1888

The detailed work in the mouldings and architraves is amazing. These are from the interior of the Werribee Park Mansion built in 1874, which is still the largest private residence in Victoria. Click here for brief run-down on the main older architectural styles of Melbourne homes.
