When we were younger our Grandparents were avid travelers. They trekked to all 50 states (mainly in a sweet red panel van) and always brought back magnets for their refrigerator from their travels. The grandchildren would rearrange them time and time again and was always the highlight of a trip to their home, so when we came across magnetic kitchen cabinets, the nostalgia came rushing back.
Flickr member Miss_Curse_10 is an avid traveler and has many magnets from her adventures. Check out the notes on the original photo to see how they're organized on each panel.
This simple cabinet upgrade is a quick way to be able to hold recipes in plain view when cooking or even remind yourself of any upcoming weekly activities. It's an easy diy project for renters and homeowners alike, all you'll need is a sheet of metal flashing from the hardware store and a pair of tin snips!
Even if you're not into the look up high, why not adorn a few cabinet fronts a bit lower down to help keep kids entertained while you're getting dinner ready? It could also be a great addition to the side of a kitchen island!
Do you like the look? Or think magnets are best kept on refrigerators and home offices?

White Enamel Flatwa...
Kitschy and very cute, but in reality the clutteriness would make me insane.
If one refrigerator clutters the kitchen, then an entire row of cabinets is an improvement?
Ugh...too cluttered. Maybe just do the one by the stove to hold a recipe or grocery list.
This is a really practical idea- and I know plenty of people who'd love it, but I'm personally too much of a neat freak! I can't even handle the usual fridge clutter...

Too cluttered for me as well.
I agree with the previous posts - that clutter would drive me insane!
On further thought, i think it's mostly the takeout menus and flyers that are bugging me. But it would be cool to do this on a wall, or maybe on a framed panel, as a way of displaying a lovingly arranged magnet collection. But no takeout menus or notes or other stuff allowed, too busy!
I too like a clutter-free look, and don't have any magnets on the fridge. However, you do need somewhere to put info on events and such that is easy to access. My friend came up with a great idea - he bought a magnetic locker organizer at the dollar store. It looks like a small magazine holder - great place to put those small (but important) fliers.
I think this is a very eclectic, fun way to display items. I always have coupons, mail, reminders, etc. laying on my table wishing I had a place to put them up. Cute, space-saver!
I bought a lot of magnets for a while -- and people always seem to give them to me as gifts -- but I finally got sick of the visual clutter. Now I keep a bare minimum of magnets, postcards and info on the fridge.
I would like to have these magnetic boards on the INSIDE of my cabinets.
Not a fan.
OK I am totally with most people on the clutter, particularly with a husband that would make them instantly look like the popular utility pole on the corner...
BUT!
How fun would it be if you ONLY had those magnet words on each one? You could have all sorts of interchangeable art with a consistent look for each cabinet! Also, those colored letters that kids use would be fun, too...
nooooooooope.
lol.....it's a thread about how to INCREASE clutter in your kitchen!!
lol
SO MUCH CLUTTER.
Gives. Me. Hives. And it's not even the crap on the cabinet doors -- why isn't anything behind them, or in the lower cabinets? Why are there spices sitting on the counter? It was cluttered before the stuff on the cabinet fronts, and now it's, well, hive-inducing. Total "Hoarders" kitchen.
maybe it's a bit overdone. but this kitchen resembles a more "real" kitchen to me, and not just a magazine spread. but, i'm probably not the typical apartment therapy follower. i get some inspiration on the site, but i rather have the lived in look, not just whatever the trend of the day is.
I like Patia's idea of having these inside the cabinets from a practical point of view.
Or I like the idea of a huge goofy magnet collection everywhere but not actually used to hold anything up.
But with my own messy tendencies I always wind up sticking things under the magnets, and it gets out of control fast, so I ban them entirely. I do have a few right now on the side of my fridge, and I hate 'em! But it's the only way I can force myself to file receipts for taxes if the envelope is right there staring me in the face.
Nooo...I don't think so. Too too cluttered!! My kitchen would always look messy and untidy. One fridge door is more than enough for me!
OMG clutter. No no no.
This is an amazing idea! It looks more of a collage. In my opinion what would be nice, is to have recessed panel doors (I can tell these doors are sort of recessed, but what I'm talking about is more depth.) Thanks for sharing!
