How are these masculine/not feminine?
And what's with the furniture gender identification anyway?
It always is facinating to me when people seem to be "offended" or even question when the idea of furniture geared towards a specific sex. If you google masculine rooms you will find a myriad of choices from some of the top designers in the world who have created masculine furniture or interiors. We don't seem to have issues with identifying furniture for children. We can do this based on the patterns chosen or color schemes or even the whimsy of a piece of furniture. Most of the lines and colors of the sofas above clearly evoke a masculine look. Ralph Lauren has entire lines of furniture dedicated to the masculine look
To me, these are sofas that men will like. If women like them too, great.
I didn't realise that masculine had to mean dull and ugly. This is a terrible choice of sofa's. Whilst there are certainly plenty of pieces of furniture with masculine design available, being dull and having no style shouldn't be a prerequisite to being masculine.
I'm one of those who are offended by gender stereotypes, as I am about all stereotypes. Any choice I make, even a pink sofa, is a masculine choice. And I have the organs to prove it...
And just because you can Google something doesn't make it appropriate. You get 21 million hits if you Google the "n" word.
Style aside, all these sofas look really uncomfortable. To me if I don't want to sit on it or nap on it I don't want it in my living room.
Anash, you're easily fascinated.

Ditto - There are far more attractive & interesting "Masculine" sofabeds out there:

Umm...
Because it's an "Inside Man" post. That's why there's the "masculine" distinction.
Actually, as a female, I really love the "Inside Man" posts. Yes, there's more greige on them, but there's also bold pops of color, and not necessarily blue or red. I mean, come on, the last part of the Valspar series they were painting a man's apartment lilac purple!
The truth is, folks, not many men know how to decorate, and they default to neutrals for the basics. It just happened with my little brother, who started college this year. They ordered bedding for him online, and all he wanted was "grey and black" because he knew it would go with anything else he added.
Sometimes picking a neutral is a smart choice. Not necessarily masculine, no, but hey, it's okay to have that option.
To me they're just minimalist sofas, not necessarily masculine, neutral, the kind that shows up in almost any AT post with a minimalist decorating scheme.
A car can be masculine. A coat can be masculine. Even a wine can be masculine. Why is it so off limits for a piece of furniture to be masculine?
I happen to think the Magister sofa is both attractive and masculine. It has clean bold lines. This is traditionally referred to as masculine. There is no need to be offended by whether or not it,or any other of the sofa's are masculine.
If the post was entitled Feminine Day Beds and there was a bed with soft flowing lines and sheers hanging from a huge canopy would you be offended?
People group things into categories naturally. It is human nature and basic psychology. Accept it and move on.
