Massage chairs — the mere mention of them makes you think of these large, black, overbearing, unattractive, Space Age things. But what if they weren't? What if they actually looked all right and blended with the decor of your space? The chairs above are just that, and we're actually rather impressed.

Now, we've never really had a big hankering for a massage chair, mind you, but if we did, the options available to the decor-conscious consumer would be downright pitiful. Sure, they were fun to play with when you went and visited the Sharper Image store at the mall, but outside of that, no one really looked at them and said, "Yes, that's what's been missing from my room! I'll take it!"

These new chairs from Panasonic promise to deliver just that. They tuck up into a small space and aim to be your own personal masseuse after a long day at work. They're priced at $2,500, so, although they look great, that's still more money than we've ever contemplated spending on a chair before. But they are available in green (excuse us, avocado) and black (or rather latte).

Is this item still a novelty or are these forward thinking steps in design enough to make them a reality in your mind? Sound off in the comments below!
