Name: Matilda, age 4, and baby girl (expected in November)
Location: Marietta, Georgia
Room size: 12' x 12'
We've talked before about white children's rooms with pops of color. Evidently, I'm not alone in my love of this aesthetic. I found Lesley on Pinterest while searching for inspiration for my own daughters' shared room.

Lesley has done an incredible job of creating a welcoming space (think Hyggelig again) that is fun enough for toddlers but will grow with her girls. We love all the details in this room, the artwork, the floating book shelves, the perfect harmony of vintage and modern. She also has a knack for knowing where to put her money in terms of the impact things will have in the space. Don't you agree?

What inspired this space, Lesley?
I really love the clean look of white walls with pops of color, so I really gravitated towards that vibe: kind of a Scandinavian feel with lots of vintage touches. We also love red, so we made that the accent color. I pinned and pinned when I was planning the room, so most of my inspiration can be found there.
What is your favorite piece or element?
I really love the rocking horse that my great grandfather made for my Mom.
What challenges did you face when creating a shared room for your daughter and baby?
I wanted the room to feel cohesive and uncluttered, so the biggest challenge was finding a place for everything. We had to Craigslist several of the bigger pieces we had to make room for the crib. We also did a complete overhaul on the closet to accomodate all of the kids' cute clothes! You can read more about that here.
What's your proudest DIY moment?
Other than the closet, I really love the floating book shelves, which were the easiest things ever. My husband used 6" and 8" l-brackets and then we arranged the books on top. That's it!
Do you have any advice for parents creating a room for their child?
Not to get too caught up in trends. I bought the ubiquitous "Keep Calm and Carry On" poster for Matilda's room and after a while I couldn't bear to see it anymore! Ha. Stick with what you love and take bits of inspiration from all over.
What do your friends say about the room?
I have really nice friends so I'm pretty sure they'd say they liked it no matter what!

White Enamel Flatwa...
This is a beautifully designed room. It reminds me of the Swedish artist Carl Larsson and his paintings of rooms and it also reminds me of French country style. I love the simplicity of the beds - the wooden frame crib, Matilda's pinstriped bed covering and beautiful cushions. There is nothing to detract from here; no bombardment of Disney characters or an overbearing of pinks and everything is a celebration of childhood - and epitomizes what childhood is and should be...the rocking horse, blocks, tea set, scooter...delightful!
I see you have the book The Red Balloon - love it!
What a wonderful room! Full of light and colour, cozy and happy. It looks lived and loved, a real room, not a stage. Congratulations.
(and yes, is quite Carl Larsson)
gorgeous kids room!
Congrats on your new baby, we have a similar age gap and it has been great so far!
I adore this room! I love the minnen and am about to get it for my twin 3 year olds. Did Matilda need a rail when she first started using it? Thank you for sharing!
Magical!
thank you for the incredibly kind comment! made my day.
hi! we actually moved her to this bed when we redid the space. her old bed was bigger and we did have to use a guard rail, but this one already has a built in rail of sorts and is super close to the ground, so i don't think you'll need one. :)
thanks so much sarah! that is great to hear.
thank you everyone! so glad that you like the room. i'm floating on your kind words.
I love this room! It's sweet and it's got character. Good job.
This is the best kind of kids' room - bright yet clean and unfussy. It takes me back to a happier, more whimsical era.
Just divine!
Precious!
The colors, patterns and texture takes me back to the Victorian era, it's warm, inviting and oh so cozy. I love the tea pot & cups and the rug.
O I love this room! To me, this is what a children's room should look like. I really don't understand all those grey-and-yellow or black-and-white-with-geometric-patterned-wallpaper types of baby rooms that are featured here from time to time. It's a kid that's supposed to feel at ease in the room, not your friends. I think this room is a perfect example of how it should be done.
Red + White = So perfect and sweet. I love the simplicity of your children's room.
Also, your room looks so comfortable and real.
@InezD, I agree! My first thought was, "Finally, a kids' room that looks like it's actually meant for kids." I love the happy look and the red-and-white color scheme. It looks like a fun place to be.
The room looks lovely, but those floating bookshelves seem more like decorative items than useful ways for children to choose their own books.
@LizaJane: Yes! Very Carl Larsson indeed!
Growing up with an Arts and Crafts inspired room myself, this sent me right back to my happy childhood. Beautiful room, charming and simple as a children room should be.
Absolutely lovely room, but as someone who lives in earthquake country, the floating bookshelves above the crib make me nervous!
Where did you find those awesome green flowery throw pillows? Also what type of sheets did you find to match the stripes of the bedding? I've been looking around and a lot of the cuter ones ended up being too much of a print going on or were polka dots and I wasn't sure if pinstripes and polka dots would clash too much.
@mdavis0226 the throw pillows were also from anthropologie (years ago) and for the sheet i used the plain white sheets for the adjustable mattress available at ikea. good luck!
The bed, the sheets, the toys and books.....it is all so gorgeous. What an absolutely wonderful room for children.
