If there's an equivalent to the Midas touch in the craft world, Katie has it since everything she touches turns to the most charming thing you've ever seen. Until you see the next thing she makes that is. Case in point is this vintage style circus-themed mobile she made for her baby daughter Magnolia Kate (aka Maggie).
The vintage wood mobile Hillary Lang hung in her daughter Phoebe's room stuck in Katie's head and she wanted to make something with a similar aesthetic for her own daughter. Her materials: wood dowels, wood balls, bakers twine, non-toxic paint, time and patience (she even used toothpicks for some of the more detailed painting!).
On her blog Katie described her daughter's expression the first time she laid her under the mobile: she grinned her crazy rainbows and unicorns shooting out of her eyes smile. We know how you feel, Maggie, we know how you feel...
(If you can handle more darlingness, see Katie's fabric toy elephant and papier-mache pull toys. Keep an eye on her blog to find out when she might be updating her Etsy shop.)

Shaw's Original Fir...
Wow, that is incredibly beautiful! The detail she was able to achieve is amazing. This is a wonderful inspiration for a project.
This remindes me of my grandmothers Christmas ornaments. I have never seen these though. Great job, LOVE this!
this is one of the best things that has ever been posted to ohdeedoh
Wow, thanks, you guys! It really wasn't too hard. I would encourage anyone to give it a try if you like it. I just tortured myself with deciding how to paint it. I sanded off the lion's face 3 times and repainted because my older daughter (age 7) kept telling me it looked "creepy". And, yeah, painting with a toothpick will make your eyeball muscles spasm after a while!
gorgeous! and such toothpick accuracy!!! that is one lucky baby.
