Cool Curves. The Biblioteca Bookrack is Matt Carr's newest design for Umbra. Carr found inspiration when he found two vintage coffee tables. He gave the coffee tables new life when he cut and configured them to make bookshelves. Now, the design is recreated with a mahogany natural top and black lacquered legs...

This is great inspiration for a DIY shelf, or Matt's design is available from Unica Home for $500.

I think it is very clever, though I ould like it better in all black or in all white--the wood top detracts from the shape...definitely would be an interesting diy project.
I like it too. I must say I think I'm seeing a trend, I've seen this idea before. There was a DIY article on repurposing bentwood recently on Martha Stewart Living.
This is fabulous. Mary Englebreit was stacking benches a long time ago. This sort of strikes me as elegant and kitschy at the same time. Anyone else?
I would like it better had he left all the legs on it.
Cute, cute, cute!
I agree with polkadot, I would really love this in just one unifying color.
Sara48, all the legs *are* on it, the tables are cut in half.
Still no like. That just me.
looking at it some more, it kinda looks bat-like, no? Even more if painted all black.
Right on Alana. I think it's great as it is.
Doesn't do it for me
While I'm not particularly keen on these particular legs, I LOVE the idea and think it would work in certain environs. And if a person is using recycled furniture, it's even better.
I like the shape and design process here immensely. The name seems rather odd to me, since it implies many languages' word for Library yet the shelves feel much more suited to light reading and knick-knacks than to serious book hoarding.
I think its great. Very striking. I like it in the two-tone because it shows what it IS. It helps you see that it once was a coffee table which is obviously the root of its whimsy. If it was all black, I think it might just look like an oddly shaped piece of furniture.
I love this idea. The hard part would be finding two identical coffee tables, or at least two that are roughly the same size and shape.
blech
It's a great idea, and one that I gravitated to when I saw it two ICFFs ago. Unfortunately, the sample they showed had rather spotty workmanship. I hope the production pieces are much improved.
