One home appliance that doesn't get a whole lot of press is the ceiling fan. Before finding Matthews Fan Company, I had never seen any I liked, so I wasn't exactly crying out for more information. But a day spent in the D&D building here in New York caused that all to change.
Near the elevator banks on a floor of the famous home to many designer showrooms, a series of double-headed shiny silver ceiling fans swirled above my head in the middle of winter. The setup was outrageous and completely unnecessary, but so stunning to look at that I forgave the eccentricity.
Now I'm not sure which brand of ceiling fan I came across that day, but I do know that it inspired me to look a little deeper into the market. The pieces by Matthews Fan Company bring back that feeling of elegant utility that I've come to admire in recent weeks. Check out the rest of their offerings here.

I've often been lured by the Modern Fan Company products. If I had a million dollars...
they are intriguingly retro and comtemporary at the same time...i like them.
That first picture looks like one of my favourite brunch spots, The Bongo Room!!
I've always LOVED those fans!
An electrician recently recommended that we install ceiling fans to save on our electric bill. Our flat is entirely heated with electric heaters (cadet fan heaters) & has high ceilings. Apparently in the winter you turn your fans to direct the air flow down & in the summer you reverse it. In both cases it helps optimize the temperature & generates $avings on either heating or air conditioning. My husband & I have not seen any attractive fans so we abandoned this idea until now! I'll be sure to research these options in more detail. Thank you!
I am constantly wishing that the ceiling fan in my rental apt were more attractive... it is dark faux wood and gold tone. Even plain white would be a huge improvement. These models look very nice.
