Q: I came across this amazing modern chair at a local thrift store for only 10 dollars. The label tells me the designer is Maurice Burke and it is called an "Alpha" chair. I tried looking up more info on the internet but only came up with one site stating it was a "rare and obscure Brazilian design". Other than that, I haven't been able to find any other information on it! Anyone know anything more about this chair or have one like it?

Editor: Heather- We did a little digging and it seems that Maurice Burke designed some Saarinen knock-off pieces back in the day which have now acquired vintage cred of their own. We couldn't find much of anything about your cool Alpha chair, but are confident our knowledgeable readers will have additional information to share. Either way- a great $10 find!

Nice looking chair. Ten bucks?? be still my heart. What a great find.
Kind of reminds me of the Paulistano chair at DWR, especially since it's Brazilian. This goes down in the bargain hall of fame.
Congratulations, I love getting a bargain too.
Wow! After 3 years of searching, I finally found out that the chair I've loved for the last 30 years is a Maurice Burke Alpha chair!!
Mine is a dark chocolate brown leather in almost mint condition. They really are "obscure"......
My aunt and uncle had one of these. One day I went over and saw it in the basement... just waiting for TRASH DAY, so that they could put it out on the street!
Needless to say, I rescued it, recovered it (the leather was pretty beat) in black leather, and am sitting in it now as I type.
