Name: Maxine (2)
Location: Grand Rapids, MI
Color Inspiration: This room was originally our guest room, and sometimes still is, so I wanted to make it bright and fun for my two year old, but not overwhelming to our guests. The floor was already blue, so I wanted something neutral but cheerful for the accent wall. I chose a pale, buttery yellow which adds warmth to the room, but doesn't compete with the floor.
Color Inspiration continued: Other than that, I can't say that I had a specific inspiration and the room was largely put together with items we already owned. The quilt at the foot of the bed was made by my mother-in-law when my husband was a baby (the doll pillow also came from his nursery), and I loved the way the bright greens and oranges looked with the blue floor. I already had the vintage fabric I used to make the curtains. The bedding is a combination of vintage and castoffs from our six year old's room. The artwork all came from thrift shops, with the exception of the princess and the pea one, which I made using Heather Ross fabrics.
Tip for Using Color: Use colors you love. I rarely plan things out, and instead tend to buy things I like, often without a clear purpose in mind. I find that things have a way of coming together over time, because chances are, stuff you like will go with other stuff you like. So I guess I would also have to say, trust your instincts.
Colors Used: The accent wall is Ellen Kennon's Classic Marc. The floor is Stone Blue and the headboards and bookshelves are Orangery, both by Farrow and Ball. The room also has hints of lime green, pink and yellow.
Thanks for your colorful entry Natasha and good luck!

OH!!!! I LOVE this room!!! My 4 year old would give anything to trade her pink double room (from the days when big sister lived in there) for this room.... ahhhhh. So gorgeous it hurts.

Beautiful Room! It is filled with so much light and the colors are lovely.
Oh my gosh. I wish I could accessorize like this. Love how the pictures are at eye level for kids. So great.
Maxie is one lucky little girl! The room looks very warm and cozy.
In love.
Thanks everyone!
p_capucine, I agree, it's just kind of a fabulous room. Really hard to go wrong in here!
LOVE LOVE LOVE.
alahoop/Maxine's momma, absolutely love the room! Just saw your sweet post on "Charlie's Primary" room about my silver pouf hehe. Looks like we might move on to the next round. I think you should win :) You are truly a natural (if you don't already do this for a living....and even so, you're a natural!). I have two boys and am pregnant now with an unknown gender. If I have a little girl I would love to do something vintage and airy like Maxine's room.
Ana, you are too kind! I will be so excited if I make it to the finals. They post so many great rooms every day, and I even can't believe that some of them don't have a lot more votes.
Congratulations on the new baby! I am sure you'll do a fabulous nursery if it's a girl, your son's room is so creative and original.
Love it to death,so cheerful & has a laid-back summer feel to it.
Really beautiful. Sunny and warm. My DD has the same purple striped Hanna dress. :) I like how you've incorporated the gorgeous clothes into the room.
I LOVE the natural light, the predominant use of white, and the yellow accents! Simple and clean! Perfect for a beach house, so naturally I love it!!
Love it! AND you're from GR!
Thanks for all the nice comments!
The room does have a very summery/beachy feel--it's totally different from the rest of our house, but we love it.
@bejeweled, Hanna dresses are the best, aren't they? Cute AND cozy!
@alahoop, Yes! I love soft Hanna dresses and am saving my favorites to make into a quilt someday. :)
