Jake doing slow video takes of the star sofa in the Interior Define showroom last Thursday. We also shot a video interview (I got to babble on about the inspiration, which was easy since I've been thinking about this for years) and some beautiful still shots too.

First furniture child is bigger than me. Last week I flew to Chicago to see, for the first time in person, the new Maxwell sofa, which I designed in collaboration with Rob Royer and Marta Calle of Interior Define, a brand new furniture company out of Chicago. It's only the first of a five part collection that's going to unroll over the next six months. This is my second foray into making things after many many years, and it continues to be a super exciting journey to fill areas of need that I've seen across the landscape over the years.

This is me flying to Chicago last week on a small "Delta Connection" plane and trying to smile even though I am super nervous and hate flying.

The sofa collection officially launches next week, Friday, May 20, but I can't resist showing you some early photo teasers from my visit last week. But I will wait to tell you the whole story next week.

I have been super impressed by the whole process so far, and especially in how EXACTLY they were able to make the sofa I imagined and drew, as well as how much more comfortable it was when I finally had a chance to sit down in it.

This was the very first pic I saw last month, when the first prototype was complete. It's a tease as you can only see it from behind, but I think the blue floor is as handsome as the bright white linen and the dark legs.

Here's a profile pic from last month of the Maxwell on the factory floor in China.

Here's a pic of the "progress" board at the Interior Define offices on W. Armitage in Chicago. I love the blue foam color and how immaculate the factory is.

We shot the Maxwell Grand right in the shop in the sunlight with minimal styling. We shot still and video, which you'll get to see next week. :)

LOVE the stunning profile, don't you?

Here I'm trying the sofa in a deep brown velvet, which we'll launch the next piece in. I love the bright linen, but the velvet is super cozy and will wear nicely and be more forgiving of stains.
