- What I Love About My Small Home:
- What I and all of my friends love most about my small home is that it feels like stepping into a modern boutique hotel room.
- Biggest Challenge of Living in a Small Space
- The biggest challenge of living in a less than 250 sq ft apartment is how to include every component of a home in one open space. To solve this, I spent about 10 months "flirting" with small multifunctional pieces that suited my color palette and needs. Waiting for the right fit paid off, I have 4 core pieces that can be re arranged into a workspace, bistro style dining area and living room.

Amazing!! I love how everything here has multi-fuctional purpose. It does feel like modern hotel room!! And, I love your tub! I wish you could show us the kitchen area.
Beautiful - good work, really!
The multi-functionality thing really rings my bell. It's so much more practical and efficient that the typical North American practice of having entire rooms dedicated to one activity (e.g. a "children's playroom" in addition to a living room and family room). Also, that is a really nice bathroom.
What an amazing use of layout and color! Great space!
Love the colors against the gray walls. Somehow I am not a fan of having a bed in the main space but I can see how this can be tricky with an open concept and this sf. Really nice!
Wish AT had people put their rents up on these submissions. Dying to know what some of these NYC and other large city apartments costs.
I find it funny that you have such a large bathroom with such a small space. You've done well but excuse me if I say your view is somewhat 'crappy". (?) Or maybe I'm not seeing it correctly? Either way, nice use of furniture place and usage.
LOVELOVELOVE. Do you own this apartment? It's hard to imagine a landlord spending that kind of money on a gorgeous tub, nice cabinets, etc.
Is this a rental or condo? It's a lovely apartment. You have a big bathroom compared to other NYC apartments that size. Even bigger than my Brooklyn apt & I'm in a 2 bedroom. :)
You've taken it up to a whole new level. Wow.
You definitely achieved a hotel look, which is impressive for such a small space.
For commenters: it's entirely possible this is a rental, there are a lot of luxury high-rises in NYC, where the whole appeal is high-end finishes. That's what this place strikes me as.
Full size tub in that size of apartment? Amazing...really.
May I ask where the yellow piece is from?
A design success. Could you tell me what paint and color you used/ Greys are so tricky.
I like the bathroom.
Is there no stove at all?
Woof!
Love the colorful bed. Wow, that tub is pretty amazing for an apt of this size.
Really HOT!!! That bathroom is fabulous.
Your space rocks! I love it
just wow
Really well-thought out pieces-- I agree that it seems unusual to have a room that has so many different functions these days. More people should try it! And as for the yellow file/seating/coffee table-- where was that found, please?
I love small places with big closets! It's almost magical how much can be hiddden away between uses. Also, so much can be done in a kitchenette, when used with imagination. Any thing a full sized oven can do, I've done with a good sized toaster oven.
Really great. Well beyond the average studio. see that it can work to paint the walls dark up to a picture rail and the rest a white or a couple of shades of.. The only details in my apartment is a picture rail, no crown or cureved junction between ceiling and upper wall,
@xiaoxiao33, STOP IT!!!
Awesome use of space. Very very well done.
This is the first time I've actually seen someone utilize their picture rail to hang something-it looksgreat.
I love it. What is the source of the grey and white striped comforter/duvet cover?
Who makes the block color pillow? I love it!!!
Thanks for the feedback!
The yellow/mustard rolling storage unit is from West Elm.
All the decorative pillows are from CB2.
The grey paint color is from Restoration Hardware (amazing, you only need one coat).
The white paint used on the picture rail is a standard Behr semi-gloss.
The duvet cover and bed sheets are from West Elm.
The building is over 122 years old. The bathroom was originally the kitchen and the rest of the apartment was the living room of the apartment next door. The building cut apartments up in the '70's to make more units. It's a unique space (7th floor, not a high rise) with what I like to refer to as a "westside story" view (my fire escape) but it's super private. I get tons of sunlight so it all works out at the end.
and yes, the tub is a real treat to have!
That is one sexy bathroom. I'm personally not a huge fan of bright colors/gray combinations, but it works really well in your space! Great job. It looks straight out of a CB2 catalog.
Love the glossy surfaces, the floors and that bathroom is THE bizness!! Love the color palette too :) Job very well done!
I favorited and score jumped by four points! I must be special haha or maybe you are :)
ABSOLUTELY INGENIOUS. Nothing not to totally love about this place!
absolutely LOVE the colors, layout, design... everything! Very well done space!
Really like your combining of colors...it's stunning. And congratulations on achieving such a fine look from inexpensive sources: West Elm and CB2. Well done!
what a perfect apartment! every detail is incredible. where did you get your futon? i'm dying to know.
Looks so luxurious!!
The bathroom is what made me favorite this entry. Very nice
Great use of space.
May I ask where you bought the wall mounted shelving system next to the tv?
This is the type of space that makes me wait for Small Cool all year. Awesome.
You nailed the look you were going for. I immediately thought long term hotel room. It would be interesting to see how you reconfigure and to see it lived in. I can't stand yellow but you really did a wonderful job of using it in a really sophisticated way. I would be happy to stay at this hotel if not live there.
In terms of colours I think this is my favourite.
VERY ARTSMART who are you to advise Medo that his/her 'yellow small cabinet is dropped in the wrong place'? Maybe Medo put it there because that is where it works best for him/her? What Medo and his/her friends think of Medo's apartment (feels like stepping into a modern boutique hotel room) is not for you to ask justification.
Medo, I really like the bathroom, closet and kitchenette-like-nook. These 3 areas and the colors, remind me of the few 'boutique' hotel rooms I've booked.
Simply genius. Nice use of dashes of bright color against neutrals.
