New House Project is a blog about Kristen's family-centered adventures in making beautiful things, making a home and going to wonderful places. We've visited her blog many times and shared an assortment of some of her fruitful endeavors and now we get to have some focused one-on-one time with her. Read more to find out what her direct path to happiness is and what she does to help manage her time.
How long have you been blogging and why did you start?
I have been blogging for about 4 years. I started when we were living in Japan. I was inspired by the amazing fabric stores around me and I wanted to learn how to sew. I started reading a lot of sewing and craft blogs while I was looking for tutorials online. I was living in a beautiful place and making things, so I started a blog of my own.
What are your favorite things to post on?
I post photos I take of my home, family, things we make, and places we go. I want to offer something useful or inspiring to readers, so I try to post project ideas as often as I can.
Why is art important in your family?
For me, making things is a direct path to happiness. It is quite simply what I love to do, so I have to keep going down that path.
I think my husband would answer the same way. He works with clay because it is an essential part of who he is. He just has to do it.
Of course we love to share this part of ourselves with our daughter. Saya loves to draw, sew, and play with clay.
How often do you post? Any tips on managing your time?
I usually post three or four times a week, but sometimes I get busy and miss a week. Time management is always a challenge. For me it helps to be really organized with the dinner and bedtime routine, so I can have a good chunk of time in the evening to work. I don't like to multi-task. I try to be present with Saya during the day.
What's your favorite summer activity to do with your family?
I am always on the lookout for fun local events, like festivals and free summer concerts. We also love museums and the library (and frozen yogurt!).
Where do you go in the blogosphere for inspiration?
I wish I had more time to browse around the Internet because there is endless inspiration to be found. I love interior design blogs, and I am currently hooked on Pinterest.
