Our judges had some homework this weekend, reviewing your Room for Color favorites in all five divisions. Today, we'll introduce you to each of our talented, color-loving judges panel members (which also includes the couples behind Unison and AphroChic). First, meet Holly Becker of decor8.
Here's what you need to know about Holly...
Holly Becker is a wife and brand new mother from Boston by way of South Carolina who is currently based in northern Germany. She launched decor8 (pronounced decorate) ten years ago as a small interior design studio in Boston. In January 2006, a blog under the same name was born so she could reach out to her clients and simply have fun sharing decorating ideas and tips online since, back then, there wasn’t a lot of decorating inspiration yet online. Today, decor8 attracts a global audience and is known as a trusted resource online and now includes three international best-selling interiors books under the “Decorate” series published by Chronicle Books. Holly is also the founder of Blogging Your Way e-courses and workshops where she has taught over 8,000 students worldwide and she offers business consulting services for companies in North America and Europe. In addition to decor8, Holly is both a stylist and journalist and has contributed to Domino, Cookie, Real Simple, The Boston Globe, Boston magazine, Where Women Create Business and Sweet Paul.
And her thoughts on color:
I love these four images and this fun, colorful palette – but the draw to me is that navy has replaced black as a strong accent color. Black and white is such a huge trend at the moment, yet I feel like I’m seeing it too much now and its losing it’s appeal. That’s why a nautical deep navy is a nice replacement and break from black while still keeping things deep and dark and providing a nice contrast amongst all of the light colors and brights that are trending at the moment. Plus navy (not cobalt or any other blue – strictly navy) and crisp white look stunning together, so a deep navy wall with white trim – well, you can’t go wrong!
