We're happy to announce that two super talented design pros have lent their expertise to our judges panel for Small Cool 2014. They are both New Yorkers which mean they know all about the challenges (and rewards!) of living Small and Cool. First up, say hello to the digital editor of Hearst Design Group, Amy Preiser, who helps to make House Beautiful, Elle Decor and Veranda some of our favorite online destinations...
A little bit about Amy:
Amy Preiser is the Senior Digital Editor for the Hearst Design Group, overseeing the websites for House Beautiful, ELLE DECOR, and Veranda. In her time covering the world of style and design she's been lucky enough to set tables with Nate Berkus and watch Jonathan Adler throw pots, talk home/wellness with Marianne Williamson, build a lifesized gingerbread house for St. Jude's Children's Hospital, and cry in Cyndi Lauper's dressing room. Her work has appeared in New York Magazine, Brides, The Hairpin, and ShelterPop, the AOL home & garden site she used to run. She lives in a pattern-packed Park Slope apartment with her husband and approximately 4,000 throw pillows, none of which he approves of.
I rented a teeny-tiny and awkwardly-shaped room that fit only a twin bed and a desk: my dresser had to live in the hall. The room was right off the apartment's galley kitchen and if someone was in there when I walked out the door, I'd need them to leave the kitchen so I could adequately leave my room. And yet, that room had enormous windows and the building had a big, glorious, illegal-to-go-on roof. Looking out on the city from either spot, I felt like I had all the space in the world.
