Allison writes with such an ease and authority that it's hard to believe she only started writing for Re-Nest a few months ago. Her posts showcase her interest in cool DIY projects and simple, sustainable ideas you can implement at home…

Meet Allison

You most enjoy writing about… fantastic DIY ideas, innovative new products, and great sustainable design, beautiful environments.

Your personal home style is… ideally it leans more towards a Danish minimalist style, but as a student its more of a Smörgåsbord

Your green home must-have is… organization and good design. Organization allows people to really think about what they need, what they have, and how everything can work well together. Good design is green design, its thoughtful nature reduces material use and waste.

Your ideal Saturday morning is… productive time with my husband, going for a walk with the dog, checking things off of our to do list, and probably a great breakfast or brunch at one of the yummy restaurants here in the Twin Cities.

What's on your nightstand? A mountain of books,on the verge of an avalanche.

Where you go for inspiration/info/help? GOOD, Dezeen, Green Building Advisor, the Center for Sustainable Building Research are some of my go-to places, but really I find most of my ideas online through image and google searches. Books include Cradle to Cradle, the Transmaterial series, The Green House: New Directions in Sustainable Architecture. Magazines include Dwell, This Old House, GreenSource.

DIY or buy? DIY if I can, but I also think that buying very well designed products is an incredibly green move.

Favorite CFL or LED lightbulb brand? Whatever is least expensive.

Favorite green paint brand and color? Benjamin Moore Aura (because of the great selection) and I love AF-515 Exhale

This year you're going to… graduate with my Master's in Architecture, move to a new home, get LEED certified and hopefully do some traveling.
