Amber is a Re-Nest veteran, having been with the site since it started in 2008. An avid home cook herself, Amber frequently writes about sustainable food issues, food preservation, and simple, eco-friendly and energy-efficient ways you can green your home habits. (Like using a slow cooker, phasing out the microwave, and grilling with ethanol.)
You most enjoy writing about: sustainable food, handcrafted goods, and simple everyday ways to make your lifestyle more eco-friendly.
Your personal home style is: Casual, warm, and colorful; a mix of new and old. Our dog also likes to help decorate with her toys.
Your green home must-have is: A vegetable garden and a well-stocked kitchen, ever-ready for canning and cooking.
Your ideal Saturday morning is: Jogging with my dog, a bike ride to the coffee shop with my husband, and a trip to the farmers' market, listening to NPR's "Wait, Wait, Don't Tell Me" on my way there.
What's on your nightstand? My iPhone (aka alarm clock), a few books, a hilarious photo of my husband and dog, and a tiny jewelry box. Oh, and the glasses that I can never find in the middle of the night.
DIY or buy? I always try to DIY. And then if (when) I fail… it's buy.
Favorite CFL or LED lightbulb brand? Feit EcoBulb in Soft White. The color of the light is just right and the price is equally nice.
Favorite green paint brand and color? We painted our whole house in Olympic's low-VOC line in shades of grey, my fave being Stormy Weather.
This year you're going to: Grow veggies in the backyard with our first batch of compost, spend more time outside, take yoga classes, and enjoy life in general.
