The Heights — Houston, Texas
We love our outdoor, year-round space! We wanted to maximize every square inch (and every season) with our patio, so we've turned it into a shady spot to sit and read in summer and spring, and a cool space to curl up with a blanket and the dog in fall and winter. I am also plant-obsessed so I needed a comfortable place to hang out after a long day of planting and sweeping up the mess.
We love everything about Mexico — the colors, the plants, the patterns — and have brought those things into our home (and have let the vibe spill out onto the patio). I plant mainly succulents and cacti, which hold up in the hot Houston sun. We've also brought in pillows, chairs and a rug to make the space more comfortable and add color.
It's taken about a year to get the plants and the space where I want it. But slowly, the plants inevitably creep inside, and there are always empty pots to fill, and sales on succulents at the local nursery. Somehow there is always room for just one more plant!
