Name: Melanie
Location: Seattle, Washington
Type of Home: single family home
Color Inspiration: This is a difficult question to answer without writing a book. We moved into a 1941 Cape Cod from an urban loft. The style of our new home is so different that my design selections were necessitated by the architecture.

Color Inspiration continued: In a nutshell, a textile I selected as an accent for the living room set the tone for our home, but generally I am inspired by colors everywhere. Fashion, nature, art, you name it. I love to observe and integrate the beauty of the world into my spaces.
Colors Used: Walls, Blue Fox, 540E-3 - Behr
Trim, Powdered Snow, W-D-700 - Behr
Sofa, Jaspe Faille, Toast - Schumacher
Chairs/Pillow, Carlyle Velvet, Moss - Schumacher
Pillows, Jaipur Tree, Poppy - Schumacher
Pillow, Imperial Trellis, Citrine - Schumacher
Pillow, Middleton Linen, Tomato - Schumacher
Pillow, Chevron Print, Navy – Schumacher
Pillow, Jarah, Polar – Threads for Lee Jofa
Color Tip: Let your colors tell a story that sets the tone for your home. Thinking of each room as a chapter in your story can help maintain cohesion and keep even the most exciting palette from creating confusion. That said, maintaining balance is so important. If you’ve selected strong colors be sure to introduce whites or neutrals to avoid chaos. Allowing one of the colors in your palette to act as a neutral, as I have done with the wall color, is another option.

I love the way your gorgeous pillows transform the look of your couch. Fun to see the rest of the room!
Pretty awesome! I love the monochromatic wall/mirror/table and those pillows are gorgeous.
I love the freshness of the entire room. Beautiful colors that work together for a restful, comfortable feel -- one would feel very welcome here!
Great color tip! Everything in the room looks neat!
Great room! How do you like the TV over the fireplace? We're going to have to do that too but i was a bit worried about the having to have people lean their neck back. Is it a good viewing spot?
Thank you.
I have to say I REALLY didn't want a tv in the living room, but since we haven't finished our basement yet (the media room will be in the basement) placing it over the fireplace has made for great viewing.
I think the distance to the tv from the sofa is key. Our sofa is about 10' from the wall where the tv hangs and the tv is hung 5' up. The other thing to keep in mind is the wiring. We've run ours through the attic and all of our components are in a closet in the hall. The remote controls work on radio frequency. It's fantastic!
Hope that helps.
I absolutely love the mix of colors you've used. The blue on the walls really lends itself well to the bolder colors you have used in the gorgeous pillows. The mix of furniture really works together well to create a very sophisticated room that still looks comfortable enough to use every day.
Very, very sweet~!
Really welcoming and cozy. The color palette is wonderful and timeless.
I am really impressed with the elegance of this. It's really stylish. So refreshing to see something that's not trying so hard to be perfectly mid-century modern.
i totally regognized your room from the etsy shop as well- particularly b/c i have the same rug! love seeing the rest of the room!
This room is so inviting. I just want to grab a book and hunker down on the couch. Also, this is one of the very few living rooms in which the TV being displayed doesn't bother me. Well done!
Not stimulating.
Melanie- you have such a great eye for color and texture. The room looks fab. Of course all the rooms in your house do. Good luck!
lovely home! inviting, vibrant, unique. daring yet successful combination of colors and textures. great work.
Love that rug - where is it from? I am looking for something similar!
Ikea!!! I looked for a long time for the "right" rug. This was a lucky find and I'm pretty sure it was $150. I love a good deal!
hot damn! that is one good lookin' room.
Melanie, you're so talented. Your home is gorgeous!
