What I Love About My Small Home:
The location! We sacrifice on space in order to live in one of the most amazing cities in the world. We are steps from a fantastic park in an incredibly picturesque neighborhood of Brooklyn. There is so much to experience here that we find ourselves out and about a lot. But when we need a break, our home is a cozy retreat from the hustle of the city.
Three of My Best Tips and Tricks for Creating a Successful Small Space::
1) Keep “pretty” things out in the open. Things that are unsightly or don’t get used often are stashed in closets or under the bed. Items that look nice or are in constant rotation are on display and easy to access. Our glassware collection adds to the décor of the living room. Bulk foods are stored in glass canisters on our kitchen window sill and utensils hang on the backsplash. Jackets hang on hooks by the door for easy departures. 2) Prioritize what you love. We enjoy watching TV shows and having friends over to watch sports. Our living room is tiny but we have an enormous sectional that fits tons of people and doubles as a guest bed. We also love to cook together. A large table takes up floor area but provides ample prep space. 3) Constantly tidy. It sounds very type-A, but a messy pile of papers can make a small space look completely disheveled. Wash the dishes. Recycle mail. Stack items neatly on surfaces. Little efforts keep our apartment orderly, so we can relax and enjoy it.
