Merdolino Toilet Brush by Alessi

We continuously struggle with the search for an inconspicuous, relatively attractive, and fully functional toilet brush. Not fun.

During our little search this morning we found this gumby-like, toyish-looking Merdolino one and could swear we'd seen it before. A little more digging among all of the AT sites and we spotted it again, topping Maxwell's 2006 list of top toilet brushes.

This one by Alessi is cute (looks like a cartoon potted plant), but certainly not the most ideal for those going for a more "spa-like" bathroom.

Any other great ones to round out the list, Chicago? What's your top recommendation for a toilet brush??

While you're at it, I'd love to hear about the even nastier -- discreet toilet plungers.

This is one of the only places that the glorious OXO has failed me. The OXO stand opens like a venus flytrap to reveal the brush, but then immediately closes and must be opened by hand to reinsert the brush. No fun.

The OXO toilet plunger design, which is very similar, works perfectly, so maybe I just got a bad batch run of the brush version.

Stonelake, I see your point, but I figure you're going to have to wash your hands after cleaning the toilet anyway, so not a big deal to me. Thanks for the toilet plunger tip, that's what I'm looking for.

Here's a question - If you have more than 1 bathroom, do you need a brush and plunger for each? We're about to move to a 2 bathroom place, which is so very exciting. Roomie is of the opinion that we need a brush and plunger in each bathroom. I think not, since it would take you a maximum of 10 seconds to walk from one bathroom to the other. Anyone have an opinion on this grave debate?

My ever-important opinion: IF you decide on one plunger or brush for both bathrooms, make sure that it is in the bathroom likely to be used by guests. There's nothing quite like making a real mess of a tasteful WC belonging to someone else and then looking around in vain for the tools to remedy it.

Stonelake, I second your comment. One brush will do the trick, but no guest wants to ask for the use of a plunger.

Hm, this is a good point. The problem is that the bathrooms are equally accessible to guests. One is off the living room, the other is off the kitchen. Looks like Roomie wins this one.

It is very cute, but the name makes me want to pull out my hair roots and all. It roughly translates into "little sh--". Appropriate, I suppose.

I would go for a brush in both bathrooms. I can only imagine water dripping on the floor from the brush while walking from one room to the other. Ick!
