Name: Meryl
Location: Gramercy Park, NYC
We combined two apartments in a cookie-cutter, post war coop. We wanted to make the apartment appear loft like and airy, showcasing both our antique Middle Eastern rugs and carpets and outsider art without making the apartment look cluttered. As owner of Cortina Leathers I also wanted to feature leather but not too much of it.
Thanks, Meryl!

Shaw's Original Fir...
really warm--has such a nice feel to it. lovely!
I *really* like this apartment. It really has achieved a Middle Eastern look and feel. The white walls are a great backdrop for the artwork and dark furniture. Thanks for sharing!
Superb!
Oh! I'm wondering if Meryl has advice for mixing rugs. For example, keep with all tribal or all traditional styles; or stick with the same color family, but it's okay to mix up tribal, traditional, etc. I love rugs and want to incorporate several into our home, but I'm a little nervous about one arguing with the other in the same space.
Clearly in this home, rugs coexist happily just inches from each other, so what was the rule or thumb to make it work?
It's a House Call, not part of the contest.
Btw, this place would look a million times better if those French doors were framed.
Er, I meant "painted." Oy.
Love the runner in the first pic.
I'd love to see more of their art!
@ patrick - is there a rule of thumb to follow about that? stained vs painted doors and window frames?
If it looks like unpainted Home Depot pine, paint it. :)
Seriously, though, I have never been a fan of unpainted wood moldings/doorframes/doors/baseboards except in RARE cases (Craftsmen cottages, OLD homes where the wood was never intended to be painted, etc.). And I generally like white/off-white moldings and baseboards. Again, always exceptions, but you can never go wrong.
But it is really a personal thing.
And, yes, I broke my own rule, offering unsolicited advice about a home on a Home Tour/House Call!!! Spank me!
I *love* the doors stained. Adds warmth and elegance.
I like the combination of white walls and warm tones in the wood and furniture. It's elegant and airy, while still welcoming.
Five (5) pictures of the same room - or did I miss something?
@ patrick - THANKS! BTW, do you do email or phone consultations for such things?
Lovely - definitely deserves full house tour.
Meanwhile, is that a contemporary depiction of 'celtic/la tene' angels hanging in the living room? Would love to see that one close up (and better still, own it).
Thanks for sharing!

Just saw your note... absolutely!

Patrick(the other one) and Zoee-I couldn't agree more.
I'm wondering if the color issue isn't partly due to
1-time of day and how the color shows in that light
2-not showing well in photos or perhaps not using a professional photog.
Sometimes the feel and aura of the environs don't come through.
Though, I have a real issue, visually speaking, with those french doors...
just my .02.
I like your over all look,But the only pattern I see is you rugs, it would have been even nicer to add a little more pattern in your rooms. May some pillows , or lamps that had pattern shade or base. Where Are your Lamps? I hope you don`t have only overhead lighting.
