Name: Riian & Husband
Location: Lower East Side, NY
Pitch:
Please consider these, the messiest 2 closets ever to exist in one room.
In my closet (the big one) please note the broken IKEA dresser that I can't even open anymore because the drawers fell off the tracks. Also I have a great coat tree that I've been forced to use as a "bag forest" and still my collection of handbags spill out across the floor...

My husband's closet is just plain packed. Note my giant pile of clothes in front of his closet that don't fit anywhere just piled on the floor preventing him from accessing anything inside. Gee it looks bad...am I that tragic? Please choose us, we need it bad. - Riian

That may be the messiest closet in NYC but if I can get over to my mom's this weekend to snap a picture of my sister's closet, I'll have a National Champion from Virginia.
It looks like a general de-cluttering would really help this desperate situation. I think most closets are not really configured to use the available space well. However, no system will work here unless there is less stuff that is meant to go in the closets. So I don't know how I would vote on this one (which is why I didn't vote.)
Who wants to look a messy closets, it's like looking at a car wreck? I thought you had more interesting ideas on your site.
Susan
i too do not see the appeal of looking at tragic closets, but this doesn't seem that bad -- in need of tidying but not so far gone.
Have you really looked at this site, Susan, or are you judging it by the 3 photos here? I think before you judge AT you need to actually LOOK AT IT.
Are these closets across from each other? A system from the sponsor might actually be a grat thing - rip out the two closets, install a system along the wall between them (if they are indeed across from each other) and then mount doors in front that slide across in three different layers so you can close the entire thing off, or access at different areas...
I think decluttering would work, but at the same time, things like handbags and such need to be properly displayed/cared for, and there isn't room in these two closets for that.
I'm going to wait to vote until I've seen everything though. If this were a 1-5 scale (5 being worst) I'd probably give it a 4. WIth the 3 point scale though, I need to wait.
grat=great
darned spelling.
I think these two closets are on either side of the door. If that is so, I suggest removing the doors and installing sliding track doors or shades that go across the entire expanse. If you own they could rip out the little bit of wall & the door frames and free up more space.
I think that this is actually a better set-up than the vast majority of NYC closets. The owner just needs to prune/organize. I sympathize, because I hate to give up clothes/bags--but it must be done.
Oh MY God!!! I raised her better than that!
Vote tragic because I can't go to NYC to help her with that mess!
I think Riian just has too many friends named Aaron who work at clothing stores and call her when the line arrives :)
It just needs a good purge and organizing. And get a new dresser or fix the one you have, it is sucking up a 3*2*2 space in your precious closet. Consider inexpensive sweater and shoe bags instead, perhaps, and a double hangdown extender for shorter items. Perhaps mount a shelf above the closet for handbag display and keep a stepstool in the closet.
Otherwise, you've got more closet space than many in NYC.
Oh my gosh! What has happened to my cousin? Actually... I shouldn't be all that surprised... I DID live with you for a while! :) If you don't win, just fly me out to NY and I'll get you taken care of!
Girl,
You got a mess but you know my bedroom floor has always been worse off than yours!
girlfriend,
what a mess... you definitely need a closet makeover!!
Sorry to go off topic, but
you have a great bag collection, think about including showcasing it in yur closet design.
Riian........Geesh........amazing.......Time to burn it all and move to Mexico..........
Well there are more competitors, my mom's closet is the messiest ive ever seen, and urs is much better ;)
