We've always been really attracted to the romance and beauty of metal bed frames. From vintage to painted IKEA — there are all sorts of metal bed frames we'd love to have in our bedroom. We've featured quite a few on Apartment Therapy and we felt it was time to pay tribute to them again. So, here are some of the most romantic and envy evoking metal bed frames we'd love to own!
• Look! Iron Bed Frames, featuring the Somerset Bed Frame from Laura Ashley
• Amazing Antique & Vintage Beds, featuring a vintage bed from Nicole & Colin's Streamlined Salvage
• Look!: Amy's Bright Yellow Bed, featuring a bed very similar to the HEIMDAL bed frame from IKEA
• Farm Fresh Bedrooms, featuring the Bethany Iron Bed from Sundance.
• Doub & John's Romantic Loft, featuring what we're assuming is a vintage bed frame but very similar to the Marigold Bed from Anthropologie.

Shaw's Original Fir...
That last one isn't vintage -- it's ikea! I have it, and it's great.
Must be some kind of feng shui thing, but I can't abide the idea of sleeping in a metal bed!
Love the second one! My husband and I fell in love with the Pottery Barn Claudia bed, so we DIYed our own version.
@sehunter: I thought the same thing! Pretty sure that's the IKEA bed. Looks identical to me.
I love my metal bed, which I bought for a steal from Pier 1 about 10 years ago.
#2 just made me so nostalgic, immediately thought of Bedknobs and Broomsticks! That bed with the glowing knob was so cool.
Love mine... I got a flat black one from LL Bean. But my son's twin we scored off craigslist for $20 - cheap vintage!
@Lola- I've been sleeping in the same metal bed for the last 13 years. Its not any different from sleeping in a wooden bed except the creaks are a little different. Maybe its because it belonged to my mother's beloved aunt and was one of the few things from my bedroom to survive the propane explsion of my parents house (I was at college at the time), but its never felt anything but super cozy.
@loviedovie: it's definitely the Ikea bed -- it's the one I've had for the past 3 years. Same knobs on the posts and everything.
@loviedovie @sehunter Yup, it's Ikea. I have it, too.
We have the last one pictured, from Ikea, in our guest bedroom, and we get compliments on it all the time. And guests seem to think it's particularly comfortable. We also just ordered a beautiful "Timberlake" twin bed from Wesley Allen for our son's new big boy room. Can't wait til it gets in!
The Ikea is the Lillesand, they still carry it actually. http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/S89849971
Love love love my brass bedframe. It's full sized, so if I ever pair up with a tall guy, he'll just have to deal.
I love that Somerset bedframe from Laura Ashley.
To those who have the lillesand (last bed) - is it sturdy?? I loved it in store but was worried it would be a flimsy mess once we put it together ourselves.
I simply adore my 100+ year old iron bed I inherited from relatives. Thank goodness I've never painted it, as it has such a wonderful patina. I would never trade it for a new bed!
My sister & I had hideous matching twin brass headboards growing up -I just can't get into them. I keep thinking of Dylan's big brass bed in Lay Lady Lay! That being said, I do like the modern look of the Ikea Heimdal (reminds me of a discont. C&B headboard) and the scrolly Ikea headboard featured in the Australian beach house.
@annekeo--I have a queen-size Ikea "Tromsnes" bed frame, very similar in style to the brass bed in the second photo (mine is all black with antique-looking brass knobs and feet). I bought it in January 2000 and it's still going strong. I did replace the wooden support slats two years ago because some had cracked, and a knob on one of the footboard posts came loose and won't stay screwed on securely, but I swapped it for one of the ones from the headboard (they're all the same size) and all is tickety-boo. So far the frame has stood the test of time better than any other piece of furniture I've owned, Ikea or otherwise (don't get me started on the Tylosand sofa). When I decide to get a new bed, I think it will retain a fairly good resale value because it's a classic style and of good quality.
The first is my favorite of them all - do tend to prefer wood over metal but I could adjust if I had that one.
We're in the market for a bigger bed, so our full that's identical to #2 will be headed to the basement soon.
