Whether it's a bed, bar cart, or bookshelf, brass has character. It's a smart, less flashy sibling of gold, and a bit of tarnish can look good. It's dramatic against dark walls and refreshing against white. It fits easily with antiques and provides warmth in more modern settings. Finally, thanks to its copper content, brass can even have germicidal properties.

I too was not a fan of brass or gold until recently. The mixed metal look has me obsessed these days. A little tarnished brass or toned down gold mixed with silver has such a classic and sophisticated look if done right.
i've been brass obsessed for years now- shiny or dull- and my obsession shows no signs of easing anytime soon. like the above commenter, i too am obsessed with mixing metals- brass, chrome, copper, aged bronze, gilt- it's all good!
thanks for including me in your round-up!
Pic 1 - that's one beautiful brass kitchen hood/exhaust. Also, just that snapshot of the kitchen - stove, counter, cupboards and their hardware, is inspiring.
Pic 7 - bed with canopy for fabric and curtains...never would think this is something I'd be drawn to (in brass, anyway), but absolutely am now! Quite lovely.
I'm obsessed with brass and am planning on working some gold tones into my upcoming remodel. A really unexpected, but gorgeous combination is yellow and brass: http://hammer-and-heels.com/2012/07/18/surprising-combination-yellow-and-brass/

Too soon for me. I'm still traumatized by memories of all that brass from the 1980s. WIth hunter green bathtubs. <shudder>
Lol @ Bee for Brian. Same here, although I inherited quite a few very nice pieces. Fortunately, the dd loves brass & was thrilled to take a few off my hands. My [spray paint] trigger finger is itchin to get at the rest but I can't bring myself to do it. Silly, when I could be enjoying them & the memories they bring.
Brass is so lovely. Especially when there is just a hint of it in a room.
I have several Art Deco era furniture pieces. They don't match and even are different manufacturers, but they all share prominent hardware made of dull brass and Bakelite. I'd like to get more of that type of brass in the room. All I've had until now is silver hardware because I hated the shiny yellow brass that was everywhere when I first started decorating. That gorgeous bookcase would sure fit the bill.
Love the art in #1
