When I ran across these images and realized this was not some fabulous wallpaper but an entire meticulously detailed hand-painted room my jaw just dropped.
I am a big fan of this kind of illustration in design and art on a small scale, so to see how Ava Roth blew that up to encompass an entire room is like delicious eye candy for me. I love how she took her time, over a year, and slowly freehand painted when she had a spare moment.
The color choices of the dark gray base and the 'gold leaf' detailing are a perfect combination to allow the walls to stand out yet fade into the background at the same time. It allows her to still hang art on the walls without complete chaos and interference from the design. Fantastic job Ava, it is simply exquisite!

Shaw's Original Fir...
Wow! Stunning and unique.
When I saw this on DS, I thought it was some elaborate stencil and was hoping they included the source. But nooo, someone just spent a ton of time doing something really awesome.
spectacular!
this is amazing!
that's just beautiful :)
Just beautiful! ...and from the soul with that year of labour to create it
YOWZA! I have soiled myself...in delight. That is incredible. I can imagine using an overhead projector with a stencile image to get the baseline scribed...but it is the hand-done details that make it spectacular.
Absolutely beautiful!! It makes me wish I was decent at drawing/painting myself!
Wow. Stunning. We have some wealthy friends who have something similiar in their dining room. Really lovely and unique.
Really stunning. Now I wish I could paint. I can't imagine her ever wanting to move and leave such a beautiful work behind.
Absolutely beautiful. I am in awe of her talent and patience.
There are heads of state who never dine in such splendor as this testament to the value of the handmade. That room is a place of reverence from now on. (I know -- it's no "I have soiled myself...in delight," but I tried.)
Beautiful. The details are reminiscent of medieval tapestries, or Persian miniature paintings... lush!
Wow! What amazing patience and artistry. :)
I think this is doable, my bedroom is that same purple/grey color....just need to get a gold paint pen....
i was thinking gold paint pen, too :)
So beautiful. Amazing.
so funny! I just did a post on handpainted walls on my blog today!
Either way, this one is particularly gorgeous! I'm loving the gold and grey combo.
I literally have chills. So amazing.
Really beautiful! This person should think about getting into the wallpaper business! ;-)
