- What I Love About My Small Home:
- It doesn't feel small--it feels like just the right size. The high ceilings and beautiful (green!) view make the whole room feel airy. It's a very flexible space: I can watch my tiny TV from the couch, my bed, or the counter, and, of course, everything is always at an arm's reach. Above all, I love that I was able to take the art and furniture I loved most in my 800 sq ft Texas apartment and find a place for it in this teeny tiny studio apartment in a brownstone on a tree-lined street on the Upper West Side.
- Biggest Challenge of Living in a Small Space
- Storing my stuff is the biggest challenge. I make use of the storage cabinets above my kitchen for off-season clothes and all but 4 each of my dishes. My father helped me install a simple shelf alongside my bed for books and magazines that might otherwise create clutter. None of these solutions replace the simplest solution: putting everything back in its place the instant I'm finished with it. (Hosting a dinner party for 12 is also challenging but is, evidently, possible.)

This is beautiful, you've got my vote, but I don't understand (a) how you watch TV (is it on some kind of rotatable base?) and (b) how you get into your bathroom!
Looks like you enter the bathroom through the closet - a lot of studios in Chicago are like that too.
LOVE LOVE LOVE your couch! Seriously, my dream couch. Can I ask where you got it?
The couch is pretty and so is the green chair but it doesn't feel pulled together, particularly the placement of the artworks.
To be honest, it makes me think of a "before" photo in a magazine spread about how new curtains and some rearranging make the appealing elements of an apt really pop.
Emily, the couch is from a furniture store on the Delmar Loop in St. Louis, where I lived for a hot second three years ago. I bought the sample off the floor.
Pestle, I agree about the placement of the art. Thing is, I'm using existing screws to hang the art because I don't want to drill into the brick. I've decided to live with off-center art.
Loving the poster above the green couch. Who is the artist (or what is the event)? Any information would be appreciated.
Favorite so far. Not to much, not too little. Just right!
Love the sofa, your ceilings look really high, have you thought about installing a platform bed?
BEAUTIFUL "LITTLE" PLACE. YOU'VE FILLED IT NICELY WITH THINGS THAT YOU LOVE. ENJOY IT!
While I don't love everything about your home, I AM impressed you can fit this much in a space that would fit in my master bedroom.
The couch although a bit different, looks a ton like the Elliot sofa from Macy's. I have it in green and love it. http://www1.macys.com/shop/product/elliot-sofa?ID=475452&CategoryID=35419#fn=sp%3D1%26spc%3D441%26ruleId%3D53%26slotId%3Drec()
Love it, Mia! Also the couch! You scored with those windows for sure.
Mia, I was wondering, where did you get that Joan Miro poster? I've been looking for one just like it.
