We discovered Belgian interior designer Michel Penneman through his work on the Pantone Hotel, then re-discovered him through the new Tenbosch House, a gorgeous B&B in Brussels that combines 60s Scandinavian furniture with 19th century architectural details. These are two examples of standout hotels and retail interiors in Michel's portfolio — although his style varies by project, Mid-Century furnishings appear frequently in contrast with traditional references.
For instance, the Vintage Hotel in Brussels combines elaborate molding and French doors with contemporary lighting and Mid-C furnishings like Saarinen and Eames chairs. At the White Hotel, a Componibili (designed in the 60s by Anna Castelli Ferrieri) shares lobby space with a custom bentwood counter and futuristic recessed lighting. In all his interiors, Penneman mixes eras and styles but keeps things simple, letting the architecture and the quality of the furnishings speak for themselves.

Some of these rooms feel a bit too heavy to the 'design classics.' I love Saarinen Eames and Bertoia as much as anybody else but it's sometimes nice to see a space full of beautifully proportioned Modern furniture that's entirely new - either to the world or at least to me.
I agree with Ben. The classics are great, but it feels like a crutch to use them exclusively. People should have their own sense of style too!
