- Inspiration for my palette:
- The living room is the main room I entertain in, so I wanted it to feel somewhat neutral, and not overwhelm guests when they come over for the first time. I like the idea of being able to change the accent colors as my mood - or the season - changes. I also carefully considered the wood finishes, too: choices like ebony for the entertainment center and blinds, and the walnut-colored floor, were deliberately bold. The acorn-colored furniture pieces tend to take a back seat to the pops of color.
- Colors used in my room
- A neutral background of a natural linen color gave me permission to go bold with the accent colors: persimmon red, slate grey, pops of brass and white. The wood finishes include deep ebony, walnut, and acorn.
- Tips for using color successfully
- Be fearless. Be strategic. Be brave. Be trusting of your instincts. Be open to a color you thought you didn't like. Be willing to change your mind. Be opinionated.

Room for Color
Oh my gosh I LOVE this. I'm kind of an interior design newbie so I'm looking forward to getting new ideas from forums/blogs like these, but I swear this is like everything I've ever imagined and wished I could put together for my own home. It's so open and bright and I love how you've brought the outdoors in. Awesome!!!
I love this. In spite of myself. I hate any form of beige on principle, but this is really great. Way to prove me wrong :) I especially love the brass accents and the honeycomb mirrors.
I agree with Noelle153. Not a beige/neutral fan but this room is deliciously warm and inviting and not at all boring!
I too am not a huge beige fan but it looks nice in this room. I also don't like that there is sooo much stuff in the middle of the room. The offcenter placment of that random stool or side table disturbs me. BUT other than that I like the space and use of color.
Is that big pink flower real??? What is it? I love the touches of brass and the mirrors. Stunning!
The brass plant on the wall and all the mirrored touches have just the right amount of retro vibe without feeling like a time machine. I love it! I'm also intrigued by the big red S leaning against the TV.
I love the way the plates were placed on the wall!
I remember this house tour!
Beautiful plate display.
Caroline, I don't know if that SPECIFIC flower is real (although it is in water, so it might be!), but it appears to be a Protea. And the ones on the coffee table look like Banksia - they're both in the Proteaceae family. (One of my favourites! They also include things like Grevillea, Hakea, and Telopea, all wonderful, sculptural, dramatic flowers.)
love the brass flower wall hanging thing
I want that coffee table! Anyone know where it's from?
You're right, the flower is a Protea.
This is a great room. I tend towards lots of color but this is a really wonderful neutral pallet. I love the way you hung your plates in the corner and had them span 2 walls, it works really well as an art piece.
Thanks everyone for the kind words and feedback! If you want to see the original tour, here's the link:

And thanks much for voting!
I love this room, it's got so much personality, and rhythm: but it doesn't feel like it should be in a color contest.
