- What do you love about your bedroom?:
- It really reflects my personality: modern, warm, organized. I'm a creature of habit, and my bedroom reflects my morning rituals: I have the spot on my desk where my french press and breakfast go, and I face my computer and the street when I write, usually in the early mornings. I love my "found note" collection, and some toys from childhood that I put in a case on the wall. Also, I'm one of those people who thinks physical clutter equals mental clutter. I've let other rooms in the house accumulate objects, but my bedroom is where I curate the most carefully. My dresser is maybe the one place I let get a little crowded, as you can see!
- What are your tips for creating a beautiful, healthy and organized bedroom?
- These three qualities aren't mutually exclusive...and I love the concept of a healthy bedroom. You can have a space you really love be functional: don't think that you have to compromise. Also, at the risk of sounding like a broken record (haha, what's a "record"?), I was patient when I put it together. I really just got stuff that I loved a little bit at a time, and didn't rush the process. Sometimes when you go with your instincts the answer presents itself. For example, my bedroom gets a ton of light, so I decided on a warm, dark grey for the wall color. But then I realized that made the bedroom too dark, so I got a tension rod (which is landlord-friendly), and put lighter-colored linen curtains all along one wall. They're dramatic, and they hide an awkwardly-placed window, a snarl of wires, modem, and router, too!
- In modern homes, bedrooms have become more than just a place to sleep; they can be a retreat, a home office, a library, a relaxation zone. What are some ways you make the most of your bedroom?
- It struck me one day that I wasn't using it much besides when my eyes were closed...what's the point? Around this time, I decided to make my "office" into my guest bedroom, so I moved my desk from that room into my bedroom. I know, people usually say that this is a huge deterrent to truly relaxing. In my case, it's not: I'm devoting a lot of my free time to writing my first novel, and blogging, and it's a really great spot to do that from. The placement of the desk next to the window is perfect: if I get writer's block, I can stare at the sky out the window and daydream until inspiration hits. Bonus: when my cat Ned gets on the office chair, it's time to get out of the apartment and get my day started.

I love your note collection. It reminds me of when I was studying in France years ago when the language school's copy machine got torched. (It was oddly, pretty much outside....) Someone put a note on top of the charred and melted wreckage: "En panne" (that is, "Out of order").
I love the "found note" collection, too. What a charming idea!
Thanks, appreciate it! As I also mention in the tour, a lot of the notes were found in Los Angeles, so of course those all have to with parking drama.
Love the little curio cabinet hanging on the wall!
A vote for that great collection of notes.
Like the desk area (sweet kitty) and wall of notes, but those red pillows are jolting.
YOU'RE jolting, @Eco Gal! Kidding. Thanks for the advice, I've actually been thinking of switching them out for mustard ones, and your comment just tipped the scale. Thanks!
Also, Ned's kind of a jerk.
I love the wall with the frames.
I <3 Ned.
Ned isn't worth it, @Jodi101.
